Religions are a good way of getting people to be moral, yet most of their morals are ridiculous. Sad.

Most people raised in wholesome families without abuse develope morals naturally, in spite of religion not because of it. It is the enroachment of the (((State))) that promotes the secular behavior you abhor.

If you had your (Great) Grandfather, a WW2 veteran and family man, to look to for inspiration rather than some middle eastern scapegoat, would you not take it?

Well, Jesus said he came to save sinners, not the righteous. I've learned that early Christians were called superstitious. And that they were very self-aware of their potential to commit crimes. One famous Jew (whose name I don't recall) argued that nobody would believe in the Trinity who was not taught it from birth. I would think that perhaps not everybody recognized Christ's divinity who did not need to, but that the popularity of the religion derived from the poor.

Depends on the government. USA, no. England, yes but have the Queen sell off a few old chapels just to feed the economy. I do not know how the EU handles church and state affairs, pretty sure it's atheistic. Vlad Putin isn't the head of the Eastern Orthodox, and maybe after this self isolation wears off I'll visit their church in town on a summer Sunday.
