if your flour has sizeable bran chunks i'd maybe recommend letting it sit mixed for an hour or so before adding in the baking powder

I usually go by Alton Brown's recipe. He makes a big bunch of premix that lasts for a month.
It's ready to go with a little buttermilk, butter and eggs
