Japan lessened building codes and allowed people to do whatever they wanted with their property, and the average home is something like $220k now, and has been for a long while
That's where you get neighborhoods mixed with residential and businesses on the same street
It helps that buildings are cheaper as well, and only expected to stay up for a a decade or two
yeah part of the issue is swiss building codes are fucking insane, everything is built to last a thousand years
