Like the swastika, the salute is simply a symbol used in other places with different meanings, but is just associated with nazism and evil because... obvious reasons
Plus they were symbols relatively unknown to the western world and common folk that were introduced to most people by the nazis, hence they tend to associate them with nazis kinda like a "duck attaches tp first thing he sees"
