fuck maybe I'll move to china
Yo real quick. Im seeing trump ads everywhere. This man is really campaigning 24/7
but there's a whole bunch of issues affecting thorium reactor development
Remind me, what’s the deal with thorium salt reactors again? The phrase is niggling something from back when I watched thunderf00t.
If there is one thing I could have in my lifetime before I die
It's would be fusion reactors
the main problem from what I remember is the actual loop
material choice was the shitter
even with assisted metlag
@Aya http://www.theblackvault.com/documents/ota/Ota_5/DATA/1978/7801.PDF thorium reactors and LFMBR's have a real problem due to corrosion and expenses
metlags like a loop enclosure with heatsinks
yeah plus the corrosion
thorium is a MSBR or Molten Salt Breeder Reactor
plus the radiation
and depending on the application, stress/compression etc
We need a breakthrough in power of some sort
bear in mind this shit's weakest link is the loop itself, not the reaction vessel
Something cleaner
The way nuclear power is right now is not good
Or sustainable
anyways maybe they will get it done, kinda nuts atm that china put their ass down on the dark side of the moon recently and spacex is hauling all ass building something that has even Scott fucking Manley puzzled
Thorium sounds like an interesting idea but never has been successfully done.
We have no good, reliable way to store radioactive waste for the amount of time it takes for it to decay
@Leeroy I have no clue what you mean by loop but I’m guessing it’s something to do with the actual lifespan of the fuel? Either that or the energy output is just garbage.
I recommend a sungun
Even though I don't want commies on the moon, I'm glad they went there because it'll be a space race again and maybe NASA will get off their asses and do something
best way to deal with nuclear waste lol
Tyrone you do realize that NASA's funding has been shit canned right?
I know
@Capitalist Space Bats the actual system the nuclear product is in, so like the tubes providing the coolant and shit
They are getting barely a 10th of what they used to
I had an idea for a reactor that is powered by super critical liquid helium and gravity with two different condensors.
Not a reactor but more like a motor.
Not terribly their fault when the government hands them a fiver and says land on mars
I am aware but still, Elon Musk and maybe Branson are our hopes now
idk wtf is going on with a lot of nasa and spacex
Meanwhile
pretty apparent they're hooked right into the DoD chain now
So it just gets stupid hot or overly reactive and dealing with it costs more than it’s worth?
