I've had nothing but problems with banks.
But in my experience credit unions are better

The DMV here charges 10 USD for card transactions when paying for tag renewals. I offer the card first and when they tell me there's a charge I pay them with 1$ bills, sometimes with a lone 2$ bill thrown in to fuck with them.
