There's something definitely fishy going on
for example the eastern ghouta attacks
they came when the rebels were losing the battle for eastern ghouta, why would assad gas people he would much rather make peace with
the rebels are also known to fake attacks and there dead to make assad look like the bad guy
many chemical factories have been found in isis and rebel territory
its more likely that they used gas on civilians and blamed assad
notice how is the gas attacks its always civilians dying, not fighters

So with this taking into account and thinking a bit you could say him being mislead is the most plausible theory
