@imig Was there something in particular you were trying to point out with the Corinthians references? Just curious.

2019-12-20 21:29:51 UTC

yes i thought it was very interesting that the original translation
"they have devoted themselves"

was modified in KJV to become
"they have addicted themselves"

2019-12-20 21:29:54 UTC

big difference.

2019-12-20 21:38:16 UTC

@imig I have to say I don't see the problem but definitions can be shaded by where you're from, how you were brought up, common usage etc. Although I prefer the KJV, I try not to be dogmatic (it doesn't always work, however).

2019-12-20 22:00:38 UTC

are you saying you dont see a difference between "devoted" and "addicted" ?

OK, here's what I see. If I'm addicted to something, I'm devoted to securing it for my use. If I'm devoted to someone or something then I'm addicted to the pleasure that someone or something gives me. Yes, there are connotative differences that can be placed on the two words but context usually clears it up.

2019-12-20 22:26:35 UTC

alrighty then, to each their own,
i just think my interpretation of the word 'devotion', and yours, are very different.
