Leftists or rightists doing x doesn't mean that x is a core belief of all leftists or rightists, because that action actually has to be tied to one of the beliefs that put you on that scale, instead of being tied to the actions of others who also happen to share that belief

Perhaps the whole 2 party system in the US is partly to blame for such a statement that being left wing is fundamentally incompatiable with being for the MRM. As you say people have to choose which is best, because those are the parties and 'that's that'. People conflate anything left or right wing with the political party and their actions rather than in its own place on the political spectrum.
