Ain't that the truth
Nobody gives a shit if we live or 🎲
Just asked a girl about her thoughts on feminism and she “didn’t know what that word meant”
That's probably a good thing
It is surprised though. What country are you in?
maybe she meant it as "its so confusing to know what it actually is these days because so many different people say different things"
considering basically every feminist I've met doesn't use the dictionary definition of the word I'd say she has a point
That's the problem with using a dictionary to define an evolving ideology... It just can't and won't define them, not for long, and will absolutely be used to misrepresent a group
I feel like the dictionary definition of feminism is still accurate
It's also only an interpretation of that ideology. There are many others
I don't.
Feminism has never been for equality, only benefits for women, right from the start
that is the dictionary definition of feminism... a women's rights movement
they haven't changed the dictionary definition have they?
its right in the word.... FEM
wow you're right... dictionaries aren't all giving the same definition... this is madness
I will never accept 'feminism' as a 'equality for everyone' word
dictionary.com (which is the source I use) doesn't list the 'all sexes' definition, but Merriam-Webster has "the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes" as the number one definition above "organized activity on behalf of women's rights and interests"
this is very disturbing
I'm surprised you haven't had a feminist point to the equal rights for everyone definition, they tend to do that when you point out how feminists are creating policies which are biased against men, and they say they aren't real feminists because of the definition
they just dismiss what I'm saying as some sort of psychosis and then start worrying I've joined a hate group
they 'worry' about me when I openly question 'feminism'
many of them know they arent making sense, they arent missing the point, they are being intentionally disingenuous. others are heavily brainwashed
I hope its the heavy brainwashing
I mean most of the feminist I know have been friends of mine for over a decade... and they are reasonable honest people... but it can take me hours to discuss a topic with them until they see that their point is bias and a little bit hateful
but then a few days later when I see them again its like all that progress is forgotten
its... incredibly frustrating and disheartening
Even well meaning feminists add their credibility to the whole spectra of feminism, which works to create discriminatory policies and bring down innocent men for the sake of being men
That's why I'm an anti-feminist
I hear stories from ex feminist women who attempted to 'change the movement from within' who were subsequently 'excommunicated' from their feminist friends
I'm very afraid of losing my entire friend circle that identifies as feminist, so much so that I now refuse to speak with any of them on the subject for fear of how badly the conversation will turn
about a month ago they were talking about Male Suicide rates and how men need more support, which was an unintentional trap because I actually started talking a lot about it with them
but then they all started talking about how happy they were I was comfortable discussing 'feminism' again
and I basically blew up
it was the end of a really stressful month and I just couldn't handle such an obvious male issue being co-opted by the feminist movement
for several weeks I kept getting worried phone calls from them because they are all super worried I'm going to join a Nazi movement
because thats what anti-feminism is to them
I would guess their support would consist of therapy and learning how to be a good man and being ok with yourself while fighting against the patriarchy and the atrocities of your gender, and learning that its ok to be told you are trash because it's a good thing
If you think the dictionary definition of feminism is crazy, you should see what happens when you start calling feminism out - even indirectly - on the definitions of these kinds of words.
Wasn't sure about posting this, but basically the last time I brought this up - holy crap!
