I liked that she wasn't SJWish

2019-01-08 10:58:55 UTC

She was just that character, regardless of any diversity quotas

2019-01-08 10:59:29 UTC

I mean - that's how you add more diversity to a cast naturally

2019-01-08 11:00:24 UTC

Without having the boys take an IQ cut or doing a Mary Sue

2019-01-08 11:01:11 UTC

But we'll see if they do it properly or not, I guess

2019-01-08 11:05:17 UTC

I actually didn’t mind how they did barbie in 3, kind of neurotic, super gossipy, kind of ditzy but still very genuine.

2019-01-08 11:06:01 UTC

Was just sad that 3 was the one where bo peep also vanished into thin air

2019-01-08 11:24:28 UTC

I never personally noticed her, but I guess she seemed bland in her design?

2019-01-08 11:24:53 UTC

I guess she's back though

2019-01-08 11:30:03 UTC

She never had a major role in any of the movies to be fair

2019-01-08 11:31:18 UTC

I feel there is a real lack of truely feminine characters these days, and I’m saying this as probably one of the least feminine women you will ever meet xD

2019-01-08 11:32:47 UTC

When I say truely feminine I mean like characters where the femininity as seen as a virtue or a strength, not as a weakness that needs to be overcome.

2019-01-08 11:47:27 UTC

That's a very good point.

2019-01-08 11:48:05 UTC

It's almost like they are the sexist stereotype so they're replacement is a really bland sexist stereotype. Lol

2019-01-08 13:20:23 UTC

I actually think Moana did the love and compassion defeating the big bad thing really well, even though there where a lot of things wrong with that movie it did a lot of things right too

2019-01-08 13:25:39 UTC

People really did their best to pull controversy out the ass for that movie in particular, good times

2019-01-08 13:38:10 UTC

Did they?

2019-01-08 13:38:20 UTC

I don't remember hearing much

2019-01-08 13:43:19 UTC

The usual SJW “it’s not good enough” as well as a bunch of people doing the “OMG this is SJW garbage, MC is a Mary Sue”

2019-01-08 13:44:30 UTC

Also Disney marketing be like “hey look our first black princess, look how progressive we are now!” That didn’t really help.

2019-01-08 14:05:14 UTC

Like Princess and the Frog or Atlantas never happened, I also count Nala from Lion King since she is obviously meant to be African

2019-01-08 14:07:36 UTC

If you want just people of colour you then also have Mulan, Jasmine, Pocahontas... also not really a princess but Esmeralda and Lilo too, and vast majority of these well before all the cries for diversity

2019-01-08 14:11:16 UTC
2019-01-08 14:12:11 UTC

They can't be pleased. Not unless you had a fully female everything.

2019-01-08 14:12:29 UTC

Maybe a throwaway gay black man.

2019-01-08 14:13:00 UTC

Probably the comic relief coz they are homophobic under the surface.

2019-01-08 14:19:25 UTC

Actually hands down my favourite Disney movie ever is Lilo and Stitch, that movie is just straight up tough to watch in certain parts, it has this thing called nuance that seems to escape most people

2019-01-08 14:25:28 UTC

Also I know it’s more recent and Pixar but Coco ruined me emotionally xD

2019-01-08 14:38:37 UTC

Coco was interesting too because the main antagonistic force for the majority of the movie is the overbearing great grandmother and the resentment she held over her husband for a thing that wasn’t even his fault, and the movie isn’t resolved until she sucks up her pride and admit she was in the wrong.

2019-01-08 16:29:09 UTC

@Abbysol Lilo and Stitch? I watched that a few weeks ago. I ran out of horror films and felt like something lighter.

2019-01-08 16:29:39 UTC

@Abbysol and, wow, Coco is about THAT?

2019-01-08 16:29:53 UTC

In this day and age?

2019-01-08 16:29:57 UTC

Lol

2019-01-08 16:30:10 UTC

Wow. What did the critics say?

2019-01-08 16:30:34 UTC

Lemmie guess: the Guardian hated it. XD

2019-01-08 18:33:09 UTC

2019-01-08 19:29:06 UTC

Hello @cold !

2019-01-08 20:43:20 UTC

Actually no, in the later half of the film the main antagonist shifts and it does the usual movie thing where the family gets back together in the end, but the core of the movie is about a Father trying to reunite with his daughter despite the odds.

2019-01-08 20:43:38 UTC

At least that’s how I felt xD

2019-01-08 20:52:59 UTC

Especially since the title of the movie is Coco, which is the name of the Grandma/daughter

2019-01-08 20:54:43 UTC

Also was based on Mexican culture so the usuals where all “asdfghmydiversity”
