a guy is the founder of the mens rights group at his college. he goes on a date with a girl who is part of the feminist society...date goes great, until they find out who they are. its a ROMCOM, some heavy moments but mostly lighthearted'

Was this based on my date?

I had this date

As a movie plot I don't think it's relatable enough for most. I personally love it but like most things it's fairly niche and most people don't care either way.

Well it’s not unrealistic, my boyfriend identifies as a feminist

She was an Uber Feminist. Date went really well but she was heavily pro-positive discrimination even if discrimination was abolished. Because in her mind that's impossible.

In the follow up I finally told her I was indeed an MRA even though we agreed on like 90% of things. She sent a long condescending message which included linking to an Everyday Feminism article. I responded point for point and soon after her picture disappeared on WhatsApp which I can only assume means she blocked me. :/

Tbh it's really not that interesting or surprising in anyway. I was just being optimistic.

Despite my boyfriend and a lot of my good friends being feminist I still get told that I hate feminists and I know nothing about feminism by people who don’t even know me

I swear although romcoms are marketed towards women I feel like men tend to get more into them xD

Surprisingly a lot of comments from people who have also been ignored by helplines, is kind of sad.

They err on the side of caution unfortunately. For their own sake of risk a lawsuit. They aren't shrinks, they're volunteers usually. They help some but others need real help.

I get that, but also been a few comments from people who worked at lifeline who believed that this wasn’t on, but for the most part I think the focus is on the guy who put himself out there.
