the less degrees of freedom, the worse
not on an individual basis.
i won't totally discard Parentalism (i think that's what it's called)
> it's hard to know what is actually good for us and what will satisfy us, it's not as easy and not everyone is able to figure it out by themselves.
I don't think anyone figures it out by themselves
the more freedom you have, not only the more options you have to succeed
the more options you have to fuckup
if you have a crack addict and you administer them an authoritarian intervention where you're able to slowly ween them off crack say.. you have curtailed their freedom and as a result they might survive and not be miserable @Xinyue
they might survive and be super miserable too man
You seem to be arguing as though I'm an individualist, I'm not one though, I'm a collectivist
there's place for Authoritarianism in personal relationships, i just think it doesn't work from public policy perspective.
once you do crack you never go back
Authoritarianism in most cases is warranted in places where things go wrong and need quick correction
there are recovering addicts who go on to build families and have jobs
it's worth a try
I know I was just joking around
so authoritarianism in this sense is an exception to the rule, the way to correct things or restore things, and even then should be subjected to relentless skepticism
i don't agree with that because saying that you are assuming that an individual is capable of rational thought all the time and actually create sustainable values for themselves..
not everyone is capable of understanding complex subjects like morality, not everyone is an intellectual
in our culture we don't give enough respect to authority
Most people seem willing to follow a trend along
Without giving it any thought
sometimes it's just better to listen to your Rabbi and your Parents even if they can't convince *you* rationally
your rabbi?
hmmmmmmm
Not everyone is an intellectual of course, but everyone is a member of society, has a vested interest in society, is connected to the society via social relationships and has both freedom and duty to partake in that society. Authoritarianism is individualism applied to leadership, it betrays true collectivism which consists in the whole people deciding for themselves what to do.

The whole people cannot decide for themselves
They can, of course
i don't care about being loyal to these political theories
They ain't smart enuff
Neither are you
but you must decide for yourself
that was uncalled for
dayum
😂
You don't want normies taking the reigns any further than they already
have
In fact, if the people can't decide for themselves, they cannot carry out societal duty
Duty consists in agency
and cannot be otherwise
Not really
if you do not have agency, you are amoral
