the steel itself may shatter and become frag

face hardened steel is a tradeoff armor

it's not hard in the center

it renders anything below its rated level completely irrelevant

it will deform when hit

like I said, the best thing to do is to wear whatever the minimum level of armor is for the threat that you are anticipating

AR500 is also just abrasion resistant steel tbf

if you think people are gonna be shooting at you from distance, wear plates

in that case, whats plan b

if you're gonna be cqb with handguns you are gonna want soft armor with better coverage

carbon impreganted face hardened plates historically worked wonders against low caiber threats

The problem is when they're hit by something over their rated impact limit

For instance, getting hit by a rifle when it's rated for pistols

I mean think about it like this, the greatest threat to your health is getting shot in the head

Basically the whole point of face-hardening is to cause smaller shells to shatter instead of spall.
