Probably because of the type of people who consume 'the classics' are pedos. Used to be that critics were a high-class intelligentsia, back when the only way you could consume lots of media was to be wealthy. I'm really enjoying Confessions so far, but it's a translation. I'm not sure if I'm experiencing the work the same way it would've been experienced unadulterated, but I like the prose.
