no
the jokes can be kept, no one needs to take them
I imagine you keep the party lively.
after all, taking jokes is an act of aggression
"No fun here. I won't stand for it."
lol
yeah just cause I didn;t like your joke doesn't mean I can't take one

Just had a thought, DC was originally only made the capital because the difficulty in traveling back then made it more practical to dedicate an entire city to politics and have everyone stay there rather than waste months traveling back to their constituencies. But today with phones, the internet and VR it struck me as really stupid. To have our lawmakers spending a majority of their time away from their constituencies getting disconnected from the people who they represent and quickly becoming more a citizen of DC than anything else. As such their priorities can be more easily warped. What would be the potential drawbacks of say, making it so that while serving in any public office you have to be within your constituency say at least 80% of the year(to allow vacations) and the house and Senate meetings can be held in VR? And I will leave you with this visual, "the house recognizes representative Ugandan knuckles, presenting a proposal to grant funds for the purpose of researching "de way""
In all seriousness, what do you guys think of utilizing current tech to streamline and decentralize government?
I don't see any reason why that wouldn't work. Maybe electronic security concerns if more government business is done over the internet? But we already have plenty done that way now.
If the representatives are at home and available then having meetings open to the public could become a regular event. It would be alot harder to avoid the people if you have to face them in person every week.
Maybe just the meetings that would be aired on c-span anyways, closed doors meetings and any discussions that might need to be confidential can be held at a more central location, why would you want your capital on the coast in the modern era? A more central area for in person meetings like Denver, and I'm sure the citizens of DC wouldn't mind the federal government moving out so they can actually make decisions for their own city
I doubt that very much.
Their economy would evaporate over night.
Their restaurants possibly
It's still a city
Sure.
That doesn't really produce anything.
Tourism, maybe?
They would still have the landmarks
True.
Just not the overbearing legislature
But the VAST majority of income to the city comes from Lobbyists and legislators.
Imagine 90% of your tax base disappearing.
And even with that, they're still propped up by the Feds.
Through the city, not to the city. That money's going to the feds
Congress has direct control over DC, if somehow socialism did get elected in DC would fall first not Cali. Because DC can't say no
Even California would push back towards the end and be able to through legal channels. DC would basically have no other options than literal revolution. Which isn't feasible, so they'd fall first
You think there's no municipal tax in DC...?
Also:
> muh socialism
Lol.
There's a municipal tax, but the municipality answers directly to Congress and has no power beyond voicing their opinion. They don't get a vote in the bills passed in DC
