one can make a volume of space within Windows

and use that volume of space to install a linux alternative o/s

that was made possible years ago

alternatively you partition the hard drive

and hard drives these days come in huge volumes

install the other o/s into the other partition

and then you need a dual boot

on boot the screen offers the menu to select your Windows or the other

one can have several alternatives in one computer

and so forth

This is how I once spent my time and energies
