Fuck I'm retarded
But damn
That's huge
Oh yeah, a dumb rabbit hole but funny. Yeah the early trees were just big ferns.
"Pollen? Naw dog, we use spores!"
I don't think such giant mushrooms are possible
Too big to sustain their weight
they've found fossils of them
imagine the spores that it can produce
Don't think I believe that tbh
Giant mushrooms still exist, but they're underground, beneath the forest
What would be the point of a tree sized mushroom?
birch trees are huge organisms
They're all one plant, spread out but not nearly as large as a singular fungus entity
I thought that was Pando
Just Pando
yeah, pando is cool as shit.
@PowerElephant what was the point of crane sized lizards?
there was a point when the surface wasn't hospitable to plant life
What is the mushroom supposed to eat if there's no plant life?
they just need base nutrients
the mycellium is the real organism
the mushroom is just the reproductive portion
large mushroom = more spores
I understand all that but the question remains
they just breakdown whatever they can
some can eat plastic
and petrolium
That's not how mushrooms work
They need organic matter
For energy
I guess it might be possible if it was in some sort of lichen like symbiosis with algae?
Still, height offers no advantage if the earth isn't covered by plant life. There's no one to contest them anyway so what's the point far reaching spores, especialy since they can travel pretty far as is?
Terraform mars with nukes
Heat the atmosphere, release carbon in the ground, put water vapor in the air
I still think mars is pointless to terraform because without a strong magnetosphere, any atmosphere we create will get washed away by solar radiation
But hey mars colonization is the start of greater things to come
Venus isnt doable yet, and mars is rich in metals
@PowerElephant size of an organism doesnt have so much to do with function as it does abundance of resources and lack of competition.
