Like the Disneyland of Nepal!! The main ride is more of a self guided stroll along a scenic trail. The paid actors playing the dead hikers were fantastic. One would almost believe they were really dead. I’m certain it takes hours of prep with makeup to pull of the look. They must get paid well as I saw no shift change. I’m certain they come down once the park is closed for the evening. I spent some time in the lodge that evening and saw the young man in bright green boots at the bar. I told him what a superb job he had done that day and that he was very convincing. He played the part and acted confused about my statements. Great actors never break character I guess.... and never admit they are the one portraying to characters as well. I was afraid I had pressed the subject too far though, because when I bragged to a local on behalf of the actors he pretended to not understand me. It may be part of the gimmick though so I took no offense. I’m still not certain how the actors came across such a sweet gig though, as I did inquire as to how one becomes an Everest Actor and no one would divulge the secret.
Also I must mention that I believe role play must be popular here. As I was strolling up the mountain trail I saw that some tourist were attached to ropes and were crawling up the path as if it was a challenging climb. I asked why and a gentleman got furious with me for ruining the immersion of his “climb”. Other people simply grunted at me.... another man called me an experience wrecker with my instance to walk up the mountain. But in my defense I wanted to see as much as I could. Walking takes about 15-20mins if you walk briskly.... crawling takes days. Once I arrived at the top I was astonished to find a group of children on a school trip had beat me to the top... I was curious as to how had not seen them on the trail. The teacher pointed out that there is a tunnel at the base that leads to an elevator in the center. Who knew that Everest was handicapped accessible. There are no signs at the base to inform you.... I guess it’s a mystery ride attraction where you must piece together clues to find the hidden elevator. I will try this on my next visit.
All in all great experience for a low cost.
Word to the wise though.... the locals don’t like when you hit on their women. Zero chance of a local “hook-up” here. Tinder doesn’t seem to be a thing here either.
