Which is stupid and will be beyond expensive

2018-10-25 13:53:42 UTC

Or you could just bullpup the M16 and make it your carbine rather than having to make a new round

2018-10-25 13:53:45 UTC

Though I admittedly don’t know much about that round

2018-10-25 13:54:10 UTC

Literally change your bullet to one better suited for a short barrel, or adjust the rifling somehow.

2018-10-25 13:54:15 UTC

Could still keep a decent amount of parts compatibility with a bullpup M16, but the barrel would be like 14" effective

2018-10-25 13:54:26 UTC

Except it’s a bullpup

2018-10-25 13:54:31 UTC

But still a 20" barrel

2018-10-25 13:54:35 UTC

And worse than that it’s a bullpup *conversion*

2018-10-25 13:54:58 UTC

There's nothing wrong with bullpups if you need a short gun and want to keep rounds made for a longer barrel

2018-10-25 13:55:17 UTC

I mean most militaries are trying to get away from them

2018-10-25 13:55:24 UTC

Including the early adopters

2018-10-25 13:55:32 UTC

Honestly a mistake

2018-10-25 13:55:42 UTC

Disagree

2018-10-25 13:55:58 UTC

It's the only realistic way to maintain ammo compatibility between a rifle and a carbine

2018-10-25 13:56:08 UTC

Without losing performance in one or the other ballistically

2018-10-25 13:56:16 UTC

Or you could do what the US does and not care

2018-10-25 13:56:36 UTC

Then spend millions on something dumb

2018-10-25 13:56:43 UTC

And degrade the combat performance of your soldiers by issuing a weapon that is ineffective with its ammunition

2018-10-25 13:56:52 UTC

OR

2018-10-25 13:56:59 UTC

We could solve the issue by just adopting the G11

2018-10-25 13:57:29 UTC

The cut down model without the weird box, it's a thin vertical rectangle of KSM

2018-10-25 13:57:59 UTC

yes hello fuck the fall of east Germany

2018-10-25 13:58:04 UTC

You should have waited a year

2018-10-25 13:58:08 UTC

maybe two

2018-10-25 13:58:15 UTC

Unironically

2018-10-25 13:58:28 UTC

the west gets STGW 940 parts kits, and the G11

2018-10-25 13:58:38 UTC

You get the same things you have now but a year later

2018-10-25 13:59:31 UTC

I never knew the StG-940 existed and my life is somewhat better now.

2018-10-25 14:00:28 UTC

They’re still out there somewhere

2018-10-25 14:00:40 UTC

Most of the produced ones sorta vanished after the wall fell

2018-10-25 14:00:45 UTC

I wonder if decreasing the twist rate of the M4 barrels would help increase the velocity.

2018-10-25 14:01:09 UTC

Some terrorist in the Middle East is probably sitting atop a cache of them and doesn’t even know it

2018-10-25 14:01:17 UTC

Oh probably

2018-10-25 14:01:42 UTC

They have caches of third reich weapons and they just shitter squat on all of them

2018-10-25 14:01:51 UTC

Fucking useless apes

2018-10-25 14:02:26 UTC

Polygonal rifling at a lower twist rate.

2018-10-25 14:02:40 UTC

But would it make up for 4" of barrel missing?

2018-10-25 14:05:47 UTC

I mean, I don’t know

2018-10-25 14:05:55 UTC

I know rifling is a precise science

2018-10-25 14:06:11 UTC

I’m sure if they looked into it it would be easy but they won’t for some reason

2018-10-25 14:15:19 UTC

I mean just swapping the M4 to polygonal rifling would give some pretty good performance increases, it's blatantly superior to traditional rifling.
