2019-01-02 18:46:34 UTC

Congratulations, @Harry C for reaching level 3!

Utopias. An impossible ideal. The idea of what it truly is changes with the zeitgeist, often reflecting both our greatest fears and values. We may never achieve the idea of Utopia, but we can strive for a betterment of our current lives and lives of others. What that entails, however, is the first hurdle

2019-01-02 18:56:52 UTC

Im listening... @zerohero007

2019-01-02 18:56:56 UTC

Wait

2019-01-02 18:59:26 UTC
2019-01-02 18:59:43 UTC

If power corrupts a man, what about being poor

2019-01-02 19:00:29 UTC

Because thinking of it now, some of the poor people I've meet are the nicest and most Grateful people I have ever met

2019-01-02 19:00:39 UTC

@Harry C thoughts?

2019-01-02 19:03:45 UTC

what about the I see so I grab

2019-01-02 19:03:51 UTC

poor guys

2019-01-02 19:04:21 UTC

Hmmm there are those individuals too...

2019-01-02 19:04:57 UTC

That begs the question.. why is there such a drastic difference

2019-01-02 19:05:13 UTC

You either see and grab or your nice and grateful

2019-01-02 19:05:25 UTC

I've found that being poor makes people reflect. The free time they have and the powerlessness they feel almost makes them look back o themselves

2019-01-02 19:05:26 UTC

It's like there's no mid way

2019-01-02 19:07:18 UTC

I wouldn't say that if it was for gang members as they have people to fall back on who mold there personality. True homeless with no one to fall back on have nothing. And that gives there personality everything.

2019-01-02 19:09:51 UTC

Wow

2019-01-02 19:14:31 UTC

...Besides the drugs they turn to, so they can cope.

2019-01-02 19:19:58 UTC

Poverty seems to have a humbling effect on people

2019-01-02 19:21:01 UTC

I agree the poor seem quite kind @épée

2019-01-02 19:36:32 UTC

@épée For me, Communism is an early industrial era Utopia. Atomic era/Late Industrial era Utopia is something akin to Brave New World. A scientifically advance technocracy with an emphasis on reality and the capacity to ignore it in favor of constant pleasure. The information age Utopia is Player One Ready, in which we can no longer escape reality and must admit to our inability to create Utopia irl. But online is our Oasis.

2019-01-02 19:38:39 UTC

But in my opinion such technology is far from utopia. Like a mirage it is not real. It is simulated happiness.

2019-01-02 19:45:01 UTC

In other words, the modern zeitgeist is that the world is fucked, and we have responded by retreating into the last known refuge of freedom and the last chance to find something that will better our world.

2019-01-02 19:47:01 UTC

@Harry C I know, but it is reflective of how we feel. The oasis in the book not only held an escape from reality but a chance to better reality. Like a mirage of an oasis to man dying in a desert.

2019-01-02 19:47:01 UTC

Congratulations, @zerohero007 for reaching level 1!

2019-01-02 19:47:10 UTC

Fuck your level 1

2019-01-02 19:53:42 UTC

It is a chance to better reality. However it is if future humans don't get trapped by the virtual one. They may see no need to improve the real world when the one they built feels so much better.

2019-01-02 19:54:30 UTC

Yall

2019-01-02 19:54:37 UTC

*I'm a communist*

2019-01-02 19:56:35 UTC

@Harry C This is where our current society is at.

2019-01-02 20:03:10 UTC

But it's only getting worse @zerohero007

2019-01-02 20:03:24 UTC

Oculus rift for example.

2019-01-02 20:04:40 UTC

Wrong, it's getting better @Harry C .
Liberty and freedom have been under attack for years and recently there has been a backlash against authoritarian forces.
