yes which is why, thanks to the tree ring (aka other confirmed dating method) you can calculate how much in atomsphere it had at the time

carbon dating is often recited because its the most well known one

@Victortze if the atmosphere was drastically different in the past which there is evidence of making a linear projection into the past cannot be accurate

but the fact is carbon dating can only work for about 50000 years, we use other isotope for further dating method.
