It took about 15 centuries to build up the church and monarchies, and it has only taken 2 centuries to tear it all down.
Just goes to show that it is easier to destroy than to create.
hows your trip going @Thomas O'Malley
Breddy guud :DDDD
I saw Neuschwanstein yesterday.
how was that?
It was very beautiful.
The rooms were decorated with scenes from Wagner's operas.
very /comfy/
King Ludwig of Bavaria, who built the castle, was friends with Wagner.
so your staying at a mofoin' castle?
No I just visited.
But it would be nice to live there.
true that the castle pill is final red pill
😻
I still have Jet lag. It's 5:48 am here and I've been awake for over 2 hours.
I've never seen a triangular castle before.
but this a special castle
Was it built by the Nazis? Judging by the last photo.
no it was rebuild by nazis
it has a long long history
There's a lot of beautiful old buildings here, but there's also a lot of God awful modernist architecture.
Earlier structures
Predecessor buildings existed: Wifilisburg was used during the 9th and 10th centuries against the Hungarians.
Another one was built by Earl Friedrich (Arnsberg) (de). After his death, the building was demolished in 1123/24 by peasants whom he had oppressed. In 1301, the Earl von Waldeck sold the Wewelsburg to the Prince-Bishop of Paderborn.[2]
A document about this acquisition proves that two fortress-like buildings stood on the hill: the Bürensches Haus and the Waldecksches Haus.
Current structure
Prince-Bishops of Paderborn
From 1301 to 1589, the Prince-Bishops of Paderborn assigned the estate to miscellaneous liege lords.[2]
The masonry of both predecessor buildings was integrated in the current triangular Renaissance castle. In its current form, the Wewelsburg was built from 1603 to 1609 as secondary residence for the Prince-Bishops of Paderborn, at that time Dietrich von Fürstenberg (de).[3] Its location is near what was then believed to be the site of the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest of 9 AC.
The Wewelsburg was taken several times during the Thirty Years' War. In 1646 it was occupied and then razed by Swedish troops[2], by the army commanded by General Carl Gustav Wrangel. After 1650, the mostly destroyed castle was rebuilt by Prince-Bishop Theodor Adolf von der Recke and his successor Ferdinand von Fürstenberg. He carried out some architectural changes; the three towers of the castle got their baroque domes.[4][better source needed]
From 1589 to 1821, the castle was the place of residence of a bursary officer (or steward).[2] Two witch trials took place in the Wewelsburg in 1631 (a former inquisition room is placed in the basement next to the east tower).
During the Seven Years' War (1756–1763), the basement rooms were probably used as a military prison.
@Thomas O'Malley yea its sad, even here were getting pozzed by modernist design
So it was first built do defend against the Magyars.
pretty much
A lot of people forget that the Magyars terrorized Europe in the 900s before being subjugated and converting to Christianity.
god damn magayars breaking down my shity wall
They even got as far as Muslim controlled Spain.
that pretty far
but mostly that castle is know as the " SS " castle the brain child of himmler
he restored it customized it , used it train officers and marry couples and some think occult practices
potato jew?
I really wish Twitter would stop showing me this same tweet in my timeline. I saw it, I don't want to see it again, I don't like this Soystralian and find his opinions to be shallow.
Apparently I'm not the only one who has had this problem. Stop pushing your shitty ads on me, Twitter
