Not sure how much this applies to federal positions, but on a state level you can get anywhere from removal from office to decades in prison, depending on severity and state, of course

ICANN has recently approved the first rollover of the domain name system's master security key. This means that, ON OCTOBER 11, 2018 , THEY WILL DELETE THE KEY-SIGNING KEY that has been used as the trust anchor for the DNSSEC ecosystem since 2011 and will be replacing it with a new one.
