@Reaper of course I know that shit, I do that to others ever since I was a child

2019-01-11 23:52:16 UTC

I'm heavy on my feet

2019-01-11 23:52:32 UTC

But strength traing helps

2019-01-11 23:52:38 UTC

A fucking lot

2019-01-11 23:52:39 UTC
2019-01-11 23:52:49 UTC

yea i want to drop down to 155 again

2019-01-11 23:52:55 UTC

I'm about 170-175 atm

2019-01-11 23:52:58 UTC

i'm still pretty light on my feet and graceful but i can't fight for shit. Mostly just inexperienced.

2019-01-11 23:53:23 UTC

I don't take punches too well

2019-01-11 23:53:43 UTC

If someone is throw a ton of punches and hitting me I tend to panic

2019-01-11 23:53:46 UTC

The voice chats been a bit quiet lately hasn't it

2019-01-11 23:53:47 UTC

takes me a while to warm up

2019-01-11 23:54:01 UTC

@GingerSnaps it's a good idea to learn the basics

2019-01-11 23:54:19 UTC

@4sakenm3ssiah i haven't been paying attention but i know i haven't been in there in a short.

2019-01-11 23:54:39 UTC

@Reaper yeah, all this talk of boxing is making me think i should start there.

2019-01-11 23:54:55 UTC

Boxing is a great place to start

2019-01-11 23:55:11 UTC

and the Muy Thai leg kicks are easy to learn, plus they do a lot of damage

2019-01-11 23:55:16 UTC

@GingerSnaps I am a huge advocate at starting with boxing cause you will learn practical knowledge day 1

2019-01-11 23:55:40 UTC

I want to do boxing again

2019-01-11 23:55:59 UTC

There's a really friendly and tolerant aikido academy in my area though so i was going to go with them. But i could liekly find the same thing in a boxing gym.

2019-01-11 23:56:14 UTC

Boxing is quite common in the states, no?

2019-01-11 23:56:23 UTC

I don't think aikido is that practical

2019-01-11 23:56:32 UTC

it's common

2019-01-11 23:56:41 UTC

we also have a lot of mcdojos too

2019-01-11 23:56:45 UTC

@GingerSnaps if you want to do aikido do it, most boxing gyms are monthly, go to one for a month or two then switch

2019-01-11 23:57:01 UTC

Martial arts in the 70s-80s used to be good, now it's about business and making money

2019-01-11 23:57:08 UTC

student retention

2019-01-11 23:57:13 UTC

easy black belts

2019-01-11 23:57:46 UTC

when I did kempo there were some black belts I had no problem with when sparring I was a blue belt at the time

2019-01-11 23:58:14 UTC

I've been knocked out by a roundhouse kick going too intensely with my instuctor once

2019-01-11 23:58:29 UTC

I dropped my hand and he snuck in a roundhouse kick to my head

2019-01-11 23:58:53 UTC

@Sigma @Reaper thanks for the pointers guys. Yeah i think that's a big reason why this aikido dojo is so tolerant of people, they realize being open to one and all is a great business model. I've heard a lot of smaller and private dojos are draconian even and expect 100% seriousness and dedication. I have a shitty attitude when pushed too hard much to the detriment of my personal development.

2019-01-11 23:59:00 UTC

mcdojos

2019-01-11 23:59:07 UTC

just do grappling, honestly

2019-01-11 23:59:17 UTC

most fights end up on the ground anyway

2019-01-11 23:59:26 UTC

Grapping is good, I recommend that too

2019-01-11 23:59:53 UTC

Wrestlers are hard to take down, so bonus points if you do wrestling and grapping

2019-01-12 00:00:05 UTC

But ideally you want to stay standing

2019-01-12 00:00:12 UTC

@GingerSnaps yes a fight gym is a personal thing if it doesn't match your personality it won't work

2019-01-12 00:00:31 UTC

You choking out a guy on the streets, then his friends step in and start stomping out out

2019-01-12 00:00:35 UTC

you out*
