The desert is safer. Everyone's first choice is the forest.

Here they're all going to the beach

With that said the desert is a much harsher environment; good survival/hunting skills are obv essential.

Skills of which I don't have, so would be a fun scenario for me. ofc most have no idea how to survive outside of society.

and i think my best bet would be either Montane or Dry conifer when it comes to long term survival but short term I think the great plains would be a pretty safe bet

I would just be roaming if STHF happens. Doubt i would make it far anyhow. Lol.
