@Ironbard I just read your story about the goth chick. That hit really close to home.

Made the mistake of having a casual relationship with a goth chick who had a heroine problem when I was younger. Learned about the drugs and dropped her instantly. She broke into my apartment several times over a couple months, stealing random shit; never caught her in the act, police kept shrugging, had 2 roommates at the time and we were all turning into ultra-light sleepers. I woke up one night to her getting into bed with me.

Last I heard, she was committed to an institution (not the only girl I’ve fucked that’s true for...), but I still obsessively check my locks, keep the blinds and curtains closed after dark, always have a bit of light on in each room.

The fear and emotionality of it all is gone, but yeah, those habits are etched in stone.

@Ironbard It does, because you’ve likely picked up behaviors that you’re not going to realize you’re committed to. Might not feel terror in a dark room, but you’ll always flip a light on before you step into the room. Things like that.

If you’re willing to suck up a few extra bucks on your electricity bill, nothing wrong with that, but if you’re actively looking around for someone hiding every time you move between rooms, ask for help.
