dude...mach...don't make every plan in stone......you never know where life leads......I was gonna work at IBM til I was 62......boom, offered retirement at 42........had to restart my career. I also thought I would have been married and a dad too.
Yeah
Never thought I would live in different parts of California....it's been fun
I just want to be an "engineer" in something cooler than what I am doing now lol.
not easy at times........but overall, I'll take it. Some bad times too.....but had to "keep on keepin' on"
You will........get a few years under da belt.........and you never know! I got two patents at IBM unrelated to "hardware" and tech comm
Nice!
That's insane.
Would you consider software engineering an actual engineering discipline?
yeah....totally
when I was young......all the folks in high tech wanted to be (or thought they were) the next Steve Jobs.....which according to them, gave them *permission* to be a first-class a-hole to people because "he was like that" (and he was) but very few people are on that calibre....very few........
and even fewer have no business behaving like he did.......I worked in the Silicon Valley when he came back into Apple. He was a tyrant
At IBM we had Lou Gerstner.....a candy and cigarette salesman brought in from Nabisco to turn the business around in 1993......and it looked like IBM was going to fade away. IBM had an amazing turnwround. Lou at the time focused on who we were, and the SERVICE aspects which really regained trust with our big customers, and he let the engineers run, held back "finance" and a lot of good stuff came about. IBM my not be an upfront player like Apple but behind the scenes. Who makes the whole thing run????? IBM *still* does and is still making a killing
Well my goal isn't to be Steve Jobs. It's Steve Wozniak, the actual creator 😄
IBM is huge to this day. I manage 3 IBM products at work.
They are not the best...or the coolest, nor the sexiest in the high tech field today......but the pistons, cams, crankshafts, and engine block are still ol IBM. My stock has been slowly growing since I left, so it can't be all that bad. I was on the ESS project back in the early to mid 1990's. That was storage systems last big mainframe. We cried when the first one rolled of the line in San Jose back in 1998
If I was young...........I would have tried to get more into the software side. Still a growing field
Our competitors was EMC, Western Digital , DEC, and Sun. We thankfully put SUn out of its misery.
Yeah, embedded software engineering seems fun but very simplistic.
Sun was garbage 😄
I need a good video editing app
Sup Blaq, what OS?
This piece of shit just wasted a fin hour
I suggest Lightworks
Need Android
@Deleted User What specific niche in software would you suggest?
@BlaqShiep Oh, no idea, sorry. I don't really do mobile.
@Deleted User It seems machine learning / web app / API is the sweet spot
Everything om mobile for now. Rebuilding my life
@BlaqShiep Oh yeah?
Women... She had my son but i still knew better
Damn. Well, now you know 😉
I already knew lol... I guess now im tired of getting my ass kicked tho
brb phone call
I have nothing left to lose lol
Yeah, that is rough.
Shes gonna want me back in about a year when im on top again. Thats the real test
Its getting better...
Yes! Be strong my dude.
Lol that makes me feel like shit actually
