An old Italian gentleman is living on his own in New Jersey. He wants to put in his annual tomato garden, but unfortunately the work is difficult as the ground is rock hard. Sadly, his only son Vincent who helps him is away serving time in prison, so the old man decides to write him a letter to describe his predicament.

Dear Vinny, he writes, I'm a bit down in the dumps at the moment and I wanted to dig my tomato garden this year, but the ground is rock solid. You know what? I guess I'm just going to have to bite the bullet. I guess I'm just getting too old to be digging vegetable plots these days. I know that if you were here home with me right now, my troubles would be at an end and you would dig the plot for me like in the old days, but I reckon I'm just going to have to face facts, and there will be no tomato garden this year and I'm just going to have to soldier on alone.

A couple of days later the old man receives a letter back from his son.

Dear Papa, it reads

For God's sake don't dig up that garden. That's where the bodies are buried.

Sure enough, four o'clock the next morning a local police unit and an FBI SWAT team descends upon the old man's house and excavate the entire area. They find absolutely nothing, apologize to him profusely, and then leave.

That same day the old man receives another letter from his son.

Dear Papa, it says. That was the best I could do under the circumstances. Now go right ahead and plant those tomatoes. I'm looking forward to traditional good old fashioned cooking when I get home.
