well that's like everything really, cept spelling I think.

2020-01-10 12:17:54 UTC

Same with geography

2020-01-10 12:18:01 UTC

Biggest life skill to learn, how to ask a question

2020-01-10 12:18:17 UTC

spelling is memory and yah, geography is memory.

2020-01-10 12:18:17 UTC

Most people can't correctly draw their own country, or the states within

2020-01-10 12:19:09 UTC

though geography is a topic i never cared for, I know how to read a map for driveing but i don't know if any of that was form my geography books.

2020-01-10 12:19:34 UTC

that was form going out and rideing with my dad in the truck, i'm still mad that i can't take riders until they are 18.

2020-01-10 12:19:52 UTC

like how are you gonna get a kid interested in this work if you can't take them out till then?

2020-01-10 12:20:10 UTC

I grew up reading the US atlas on road trips with my dad

2020-01-10 12:20:17 UTC

Great way to learn

2020-01-10 12:20:29 UTC

by then hopefully they are doing at least part time work that would make a OTR road trip not possible!

2020-01-10 12:21:17 UTC

and yah, that should be a thing, like the comeing of age ritual.
"you are gonna drive all the way to the other coast and back again and only then will you be a man!"

2020-01-10 12:21:41 UTC

Another problem with public education is that, since children have to sit for so long (not just in school), they don't have enough time left to do sports, and the opportunities to do sports are lacking because all that money goes into public education.

2020-01-10 12:21:42 UTC

it's not even that long a trip really, a month tops.

2020-01-10 12:22:02 UTC

Instead they sit in school, sit after school, and even sit during playtime

2020-01-10 12:22:18 UTC

not much interest in sports myself, but haveing space for kids to play games of their own is important for sure.

2020-01-10 12:22:34 UTC

Public schools are unironically run like prisons

2020-01-10 12:22:36 UTC

also shop, teaching them how to turn a wrench and such.

2020-01-10 12:22:36 UTC

Sports is super important, we really need to move around. Especially kids.

2020-01-10 12:22:41 UTC

That needs to change

2020-01-10 12:23:21 UTC

@ARockRaider good news-ish gen x parents are bringing back shop class

2020-01-10 12:23:28 UTC

one could argue schools are run WORSE then prisons because the teachers can be rather crule sometimes.

2020-01-10 12:23:36 UTC

though i only know that 2nd hand.

2020-01-10 12:24:07 UTC

Yeah, and you know what's stupid? When the children misbehave, they get punished by being lectured - literally the worst form of teaching. So the punishment is *less education*

2020-01-10 12:24:30 UTC

also, schools need to stop pushing collage, waste of money for almost all people.

2020-01-10 12:24:51 UTC

Incentivise trade schools

2020-01-10 12:25:18 UTC

that and make a proper list of what kind of jobs there really are out there or in a local area.

2020-01-10 12:25:37 UTC

and I would REALLY like to find some testing that would tell me what kind of work i would like.

2020-01-10 12:25:47 UTC

^

2020-01-10 12:26:05 UTC

I want a job I can be good at

2020-01-10 12:26:07 UTC

I already know i like driveing truck, but that job is very stressfull.

2020-01-10 12:26:35 UTC

Same with being a guard

2020-01-10 12:27:03 UTC

Economics, a class that should replace other classes, like the arts. Or reduce arts by 50% and instead teach some economics.
But if they teach economics then they'll have to risk that children understand taxes are theft. Can't have that.

2020-01-10 12:27:16 UTC

this! all of this!

2020-01-10 12:27:43 UTC

if there is one class that SHOULD be mandatory and could never be over tought it is Economics!

2020-01-10 12:28:05 UTC

In some schools it becomes mandatory, but only later.

2020-01-10 12:28:36 UTC

Mfw there wasn't a single economics class in my school district growing up<:why:462286147473637407>

2020-01-10 12:28:53 UTC

I remember having a single session where we were taught about economics and being an entrepreneur, and everyone hated it.

2020-01-10 12:29:05 UTC

like "how to have a budget" is almost as important as knowing how to poop.

2020-01-10 12:29:07 UTC

No fucking way would we have cared about an entire class.

2020-01-10 12:29:23 UTC

I think economics is sometimes mandatory after grade 8
