Less human trafficking because the demand goes down

2019-12-11 16:44:36 UTC

Do you trust an Alexa in your home?

2019-12-11 16:44:53 UTC

What?

2019-12-11 16:45:26 UTC

A voice-activated assistant that by design listens to everything you say and can be modified for surveillance?

2019-12-11 16:46:07 UTC

A interactive robot that doesn't have feelings or loyalty would be in and of itself a privacy violation.

2019-12-11 16:46:09 UTC

Why should it have to stay connected to the internet?

2019-12-11 16:46:24 UTC

Because the manufacturer will make it mandatory.

2019-12-11 16:46:28 UTC

No

2019-12-11 16:46:33 UTC

The demand for that will be extremely low

2019-12-11 16:46:35 UTC

Like they do for video game consoles today.

2019-12-11 16:46:43 UTC

Sex robots will be too invasive if they are online

2019-12-11 16:46:47 UTC

People won't buy that

2019-12-11 16:47:05 UTC

If they're just black market it won't be worth the trouble and won't become widespread as you claim.

2019-12-11 16:47:17 UTC

The mainstream robots will not be online

2019-12-11 16:47:57 UTC

People accept consoles being online because they don't film their dicks and their buttholes

2019-12-11 16:48:09 UTC

They don't record their moans

2019-12-11 16:48:21 UTC

The weird side of private life

2019-12-11 16:48:45 UTC

Except... people do that.

2019-12-11 16:48:49 UTC

Some do

2019-12-11 16:48:59 UTC

Sex robots that do this will not be in high demand

2019-12-11 16:49:04 UTC

The main market will be for offline robots

2019-12-11 16:49:16 UTC

How will it know anything or answer your questions?

2019-12-11 16:49:33 UTC

For simplicity's sake it will be connected to the internet just like an Alexa.

2019-12-11 16:49:43 UTC

You can update it from time to time, it doesn't require to be online for that

2019-12-11 16:50:30 UTC

It's like voting, people are still not very welcoming of online voting, most of it happens in real life offline

2019-12-11 16:50:50 UTC

Even though we've had the technology for many years

2019-12-11 16:51:11 UTC

The machine-learning stuff that AI is powered by is hosted on giant servers who-knows-where and wouldn't be unique to your bot.

2019-12-11 16:51:30 UTC

Computers aren't unique

2019-12-11 16:52:36 UTC

A lot of people work on their laptops while being offline, the demand for a consistent internet connection is not as high as you seem to think, even though it would make a lot of things more convenient

2019-12-11 16:52:58 UTC

They would have to be extremely expensive to be offline-capable, and the more competitively-priced ones would just run off a proprietary chatbot that runs on another server and cut CPU costs for individual units.

2019-12-11 16:53:40 UTC

It also is basic practice for troubleshooting as well. You won't need to diagnose every single sex bot if it gives you the wrong answers.

2019-12-11 16:53:56 UTC

Alright, since we're not making progress, why is this point so important?

2019-12-11 16:56:33 UTC

Technology does not practically advance in a linear fashion, it contorts and contracts and curls up around itself in regards to practicality. It's why we don't have flying cars.

The point is it would most definitely spy on you and spit out ads for things in casual conversation, as a development of targeted advertisement. They'd fund the operation and backend the same way digital media always has: selling adspace on your sexbot's brain. It would literally shill at you and recommend products in its off-time.

2019-12-11 16:57:23 UTC

There would be demand for no ads, even if that ends up being more expensive, for whichever reason

2019-12-11 16:57:40 UTC

So it doesn't matter, everyone gets what they want

2019-12-11 16:58:29 UTC

Are you willing to buy a Xbox Live style subscription to your artificial life partner's consciousness so she doesn't put Air Wick on your shopping list?

2019-12-11 16:58:50 UTC

Sex robots wouldn't be doing my shopping, I do that

2019-12-11 16:58:58 UTC

Unneeded tasks can be turned off

2019-12-11 16:59:06 UTC

Not if you can't reach them

2019-12-11 16:59:13 UTC

What do you mean?

2019-12-11 17:00:10 UTC

How confident are you in your ability to mod an advanced android to disable its always-online protocol and digital-assistant features?
