I figured it out, and figured i would let you know.

2019-12-16 23:38:47 UTC

Anyone hear the argument "the electoral college hurts smaller states" before?

2019-12-16 23:39:38 UTC

Probably

2019-12-16 23:40:00 UTC

Though if I remember it's made for the less dense states to have an actual voice

2019-12-16 23:40:33 UTC

I have heard everything bad about the electoral college

2019-12-16 23:40:57 UTC

All I say is, how is it different than the house? Big states have more votes than smaller states.

2019-12-16 23:41:30 UTC

No matter what realm of discontent you hail from your vote is not 1:1

2019-12-16 23:42:37 UTC

yeah this argument comes from people who hate rural populations and want "one person, one vote"

2019-12-16 23:43:27 UTC

and i know the former sounds like an ad hom but no, the people that *I've* heard say that literally openly despise rural folk <:pepelaugh:544857300179877898>

2019-12-16 23:44:14 UTC

and of course "one person, one vote" just means direct democracy, also known as "tyranny of the masses"/mob rule

2019-12-16 23:53:54 UTC

@Cobra Commander I was told this in elementary, middle and high school. I didn't ever believe it but they're are spouting it in schools

2019-12-17 00:04:14 UTC

I don't think I was ever taught that actually

2019-12-17 00:04:40 UTC

then again I did grow up in an air force base for a chunk of my childhood, so that may have been a factor.

2019-12-17 00:05:31 UTC

*I did hear this in high school though

2019-12-17 00:06:30 UTC

All public schools here, in a blue state. Our education system needs to burn

2019-12-17 00:07:04 UTC

We can sort it out later from the ashes

2019-12-17 00:09:35 UTC

History classes in particular are doing students a great disservice by just

2019-12-17 00:09:45 UTC

twisting history and terminology

2019-12-17 00:10:10 UTC

Colleges have this problem in fucking spades

2019-12-17 00:10:44 UTC

And my next semester will have a sociology class, so I'll probably be facing the full brunt of it

2019-12-17 00:11:27 UTC

Nah, it's disservice is in them not teaching any history anymore, misinformation is one thing, at least the critically thinking will hear about it and double check. But these days they just ignore things and don't even mention them.

2019-12-17 00:13:17 UTC

my senior year world history textbook had 4 pages on Incan gender roles.

2019-12-17 00:13:25 UTC

that is not an exaggeration.

2019-12-17 00:13:51 UTC

Went through all of 3-12 grade without hearing about things like the bay of pigs, most of WW2 and all of WW1 except for some comments on "how it started" aka some guy in Germany was evil, and fsr everyone liked them

2019-12-17 00:13:55 UTC

Guess how many were on WWII and the Space Race.

2019-12-17 00:14:19 UTC

Maybe one class

2019-12-17 00:14:19 UTC

one if that

2019-12-17 00:14:31 UTC

no i mean pages in a textbook

2019-12-17 00:14:40 UTC

Oh, maybe a blurb

2019-12-17 00:14:42 UTC

oh gotcha

2019-12-17 00:14:51 UTC

1 paragraph on WWII

2019-12-17 00:15:03 UTC

Shameful

2019-12-17 00:15:16 UTC

and one fucking *sentence* on the goddamn Space Race

2019-12-17 00:15:26 UTC

Sounds like the state you were in was infected with leftist

2019-12-17 00:15:42 UTC

If it wasn't "we won" I'll be even more disappointed than I already am

2019-12-17 00:15:49 UTC

well it's MD so it's

2019-12-17 00:15:58 UTC

complicated

2019-12-17 00:16:22 UTC

Ah, a *blue state

2019-12-17 00:16:25 UTC

its blue politics from the north in red territory in the south

2019-12-17 00:16:51 UTC

Taking the lack of actual American history, rather erasure of it, it's run by the blues

2019-12-17 00:17:00 UTC

Let me guess, almost all red except the bigger cities?
