I would say make 8 year term presidencies.

2020-02-02 11:24:16 UTC

With that exception above.

2020-02-02 11:24:50 UTC

the problem is you kind of miss the window for establishing effective long term leadership in a mature republic that produces a divisive political scene such as our own

2020-02-02 11:25:49 UTC

Well it wasn't like term limits was a concept to the founding fathers.

2020-02-02 11:25:54 UTC

the problem is is that the system was not designed to be efficient

2020-02-02 11:26:04 UTC

which was fine when it had a lot less on its plate to manage

2020-02-02 11:26:12 UTC

but historical progression changed that

2020-02-02 11:26:24 UTC

yeah they were introduced after FDR

2020-02-02 11:27:03 UTC

There is a strong argument to remove them.

2020-02-02 11:27:25 UTC

Especially since a second term president is no longer truly accountable to the people.

2020-02-02 11:27:44 UTC

partisan politics really fucks things up

2020-02-02 11:27:48 UTC

like if you look at madison

2020-02-02 11:28:03 UTC

he thought that the system would naturally be inclined to not produce partisan politics

2020-02-02 11:28:09 UTC

he was pretty wrong on that one

2020-02-02 11:29:01 UTC

The thing we should be trying to do is slowly devovle the role of the federal government and give states back their responsibilities.

2020-02-02 11:29:26 UTC

and this is part of the problem i think, because ultimately nobody is smart enough to design a system that can, of its own volition, account for all the variables that will be thrown at it, especially in the long term

2020-02-02 11:29:39 UTC

the founders should have accepted their role as a natural aristocracy

2020-02-02 11:31:03 UTC

Well I say my point because if Democrat and Republican people can both live in what kind of US they want to live in, partisan politics will lessen.

2020-02-02 11:31:24 UTC

i just want the usa to balkanize

2020-02-02 11:32:03 UTC

I don't think balkanizing is necessary.

2020-02-02 11:32:38 UTC

A lot of the issues result from federal overreach.

2020-02-02 11:33:00 UTC

i think that political centralization largely flows from military centralization

2020-02-02 11:33:07 UTC

also i would say there are deep division within states

2020-02-02 11:33:34 UTC

Perhaps but it is easier to move between states than countries.

2020-02-02 11:33:42 UTC

if you take two white parts of any states and compare them with white and black parts within the same state the former will probably be more harmonious

2020-02-02 11:36:08 UTC

Well it's a matter of at least addressing divisions.

2020-02-02 11:36:57 UTC

Because if people can choose their own destiny easier, we won't see radicalization nearly as much.

2020-02-02 11:37:21 UTC

but this is the problem i have with this

2020-02-02 11:37:37 UTC

i think these sorts of decentralization measures are temporary at best

2020-02-02 11:38:01 UTC

and as the polity centralizes again we will be dealing with an even worse situation

2020-02-02 11:40:28 UTC

I don't actually think too much power would be lost in the endavour at least the policies I would send back to states.

2020-02-02 11:40:46 UTC

what would you propose

2020-02-02 11:43:48 UTC

In matters of the domestic, the state should maintain sovereignty on its wellfare and health services. The state should also maintain sovereignty in how it will address issues of the right to bare arms and various cultural cornerpieces.

2020-02-02 11:44:25 UTC

Basically abortion, gun rights, and issues related to culture should be handled by the state itself.

2020-02-02 11:45:55 UTC

Decent ideas, but yeah, it would eventually re-centralize to the federal level.

2020-02-02 11:46:35 UTC

Is Gun Rights a State issue tho? *Glances at constitution*

2020-02-02 11:46:44 UTC

Not now.

2020-02-02 11:47:02 UTC

However, if it was.

2020-02-02 11:47:20 UTC

We wouldn't see a Democratic push to federally outlaw them.

2020-02-02 11:47:38 UTC

Which would cause a massive shitstorm.

2020-02-02 11:48:43 UTC

I completely disagree. Whether state level or federal, Dems are out to destroy all "Right Wing" social issues. Best way to do this is through federal enforcement.
