> Shunning socialism and communism like Nazism

I'd written previously that part of the problem is that people are motivated by emotion, and while the death count of commies and socialists is far higher, the optics of Nazism are ultimately what scares people away from it. So, we need to figure out a way to make it *appear* scary through visuals and visual language. What's going on in Venezuela and China atm works towards that end.

Memes also help that cause

There is a simple way to make socialism look bad.

2020-02-13 09:10:54 UTC

Associate it with thivery.

2020-02-13 10:11:50 UTC

@Jerm70 so.... tell the truth?

2020-02-13 10:55:13 UTC
2020-02-13 10:56:18 UTC

Its the lower upper class wanting to kill the upper upper class out of envy.

2020-02-13 11:22:42 UTC

I mean, that works in terms of moral shaming, but in my experience, people get defensive with it, cuz you're basically calling them thieves and no one likes that. So ... as far as that's concerned, you need a gentler approach. Cuz if someone is starving, they don't care about laws and morals. They'll steal to feed their kids if they have to, so you have to show them how they can live better under capitalism without feeling like you're taking something away from them.

2020-02-13 11:41:10 UTC

Never believe politicians. They do not care about people. They’re glorified mafia.

Socialism, literally mob rule

Democracy, literally mob rule

2020-02-13 12:41:06 UTC

@Marushia Dark You can't reason with a socialist about why socialism is bad because the ends justify the means.

2020-02-13 13:06:10 UTC

I remember that story, when they started "cleanup" of those homes they didn't even give the people the chance to take their stuff out of them and didn't give the guy a chance to show them how to unlock the casters so they weren't dammaged.
least that's what the story said.

2020-02-13 13:06:51 UTC

funny how now that same city is letting the homeless slum it up in much worse setups ratehr then then those little homes that didn't even look bad.

2020-02-13 13:07:43 UTC

bet they would still distroy such tiny homes still, because then those people wouldn't need the city to 'save' them.

2020-02-13 13:17:31 UTC

@Jerm70 Hence why I rely on what I call the Trade Principle, wherein you offer someone something better than what they have in order to get them to quit. So like the way you get rid of the post office is to build FedEx and UPS and DHL and Amazon, which we all know work better. People turn to the govt cuz they feel they have no better option.

The other thing to do is make it personal for them. You wanna abolish private property, ok, let's start with yours. Give me half of all your stuff, and I'll take it down to the local homeless shelter. "Oh, no, no, no," they'll reply. "That's *personal* property. I meant *private* property, as in like a private business owner."

Oh, ok. So what do you do for a living if you don't mind my asking? "Oh, I own my own business." No you don't! "Wh-what do you mean? Of course I do." No, you said you wanted to abolish all private property, which means you don't own your own business, your employees do. THEY'RE the boss and have as much say in it as you do, if not more, in fact, cuz they make the majority. "Oh, well, that's not true, I value my employees and listen to their input and treat them well."

Yeah, ok, but that's not what you're advocating. Let's put a union in your shop and see if you still like it. "Oh, no, no, no, I put up the money and take the risk, so I should keep it." Exactly!

Make it personal for these people! Show them they don't *really* care about their principles, they just want their rules to apply to *other* people.

2020-02-13 13:22:59 UTC

quite sure most of these kinds of people are NOT business owners.

2020-02-13 13:23:00 UTC

"I'm in favor of open borders and we need to take in more refugees." Excellent! Here's Muhammad and his twelve brothers, they've just come from Syria and are looking for a place to stay, so I told them that you're very pro-refugee and they can stay with you.

"Oh, um ... sorry, I can't I ..." Yeah, uh-huh.

2020-02-13 13:25:58 UTC

That's flawed because they would admit that they are flawed and that's why we need socialism.

2020-02-13 13:26:20 UTC

They need socialism because they are privelleged.

2020-02-13 13:26:26 UTC

> quite sure most of these kinds of people are NOT business owners.

Some of them are, and that'll work for them, but overall, the principle of making it personal is more what I'm driving at.

Yes, Mr. Smith, what is it you do? "Oh, well I work in a factory line." Fantastic, and how much do you make sir? "$8 / hr, but I'm hoping to pass minimum wage to make $15." Ooh, boy, $8 / hr is rough, I tell ya. You seem like a hard working guy, have you ever thought about becoming an assistant manager? They make $15 just starting out, and more if you go higher.

"Oh, those managers are crooks who abuse us and take advantage." Yeah, I know. You could run the show better, so why aren't you stepping up? Let's see you actually do it. I'm sure you've lots of managerial experience and won't run this into the ground ...

2020-02-13 13:26:39 UTC

or they would say something like "well I'M one of the poor ones, i can't afford that"

2020-02-13 13:27:26 UTC

They have an excuse for their actions and that is why we need socialism.

2020-02-13 13:28:09 UTC

> They need socialism because they are privelleged.

Excellent. I know exactly what you mean, so here, let me get your checkbook and you can sign a check to the Treasury right now, or to your own favorite charity, whatever you want. We don't have to wait for a law, you can do this right now if that's really how you feel.

"Oh, uh ... uh ... see, I would, but I can't right now. That money's being used for something else ..." I'm sure it is.

2020-02-13 13:28:35 UTC

If socialism is the one truth... Everything else can be fitted into it if pushed hard enough.

2020-02-13 13:29:06 UTC

For every excuse they make, we have a counter, though, because we have the moral high ground leaning on property rights, free association, and voluntarism.

2020-02-13 13:29:27 UTC

well ill keep my eyes open for the conversations you have with these sorts of people, but I really don't think it will work even if it seems like it is the logical answer to what they say.

2020-02-13 13:29:41 UTC

Make them actually *live up to* their own principles. Shove it in their faces

2020-02-13 13:30:12 UTC

Yes but that isn't the underlying point. There is no counter to "but socialism will fix everything once it is done." that would be accepted.

2020-02-13 13:30:42 UTC

Its a cult.

2020-02-13 13:31:17 UTC

well if you happen to see Death In June around try and talk to them like this, i'm sure they will deflect everything.
i'm sure there are others of the sort around but i cant remember who for sure off the top of my head.
