i dont think nationalism has to be isolationist
protective maybe
That's what I'm getting at
Protectionism is more nationalistic than total free trade with other nations
i get ya
The opposition to globalisation is that one would like the country to turn internal completely and cut it's ties with the world
globalisation isn't the act of attempting to make good relationships with other countries
it appears to be a push towards global rule
the opposition of that isn't a muddy topic
and is wholly appropriate for someone who doesn't believe that a single government above all is a fantastic idea
You can have good relations with anyone without having massive economic ties to them
And having free movement of labour
And sharing military and technological secrets
exactly
That's what I'm for
i agree that the uk and the us special relationship should be maintained
I dont really think so
and we should align ourselves with them and their mil in terms of opsec etc
that's fair if you don't
i find that our relationship with the us isn't something like our relationship with the europeans
But
as the americans and us share common heritage, language and ideas
America has been opposed to britain being a hegemon
And we are in a sense a satellite state
We already are a hegemon in the sense that we are thought leaders
we don't need to enact force
America was heavily involved with britain losing its Empire - Britons should remember this
the former collonies all look back to us
this is an interesting perspective
It was part of American foreign policy
i'm sure it was
It was even considering war in the 1930s to invade Canada
we also did a lot of things to the us in the past
I know
And I'm glad we did
i don't think america is built against the uk
I do think that we've had our conflicts
as all families do
It's whole reason for existing was against Britain
It's only sided with us when we were not a threat to them
