Where you can take one set of horns off , and switch for another set

2020-02-29 03:56:39 UTC

they have cross-brackets and reinforcement "bridges" to hold the string riser

2020-02-29 03:56:45 UTC

Simply making two into one

2020-02-29 03:56:49 UTC

And they may be vastly different inside

2020-02-29 03:57:03 UTC

Well. The lyre is thinner I'll admit

2020-02-29 03:57:10 UTC

Not to mention that the volume of the resonance chamber/cavity may vary too

2020-02-29 03:57:20 UTC

True ...

2020-02-29 03:57:35 UTC

I thought it was a neat idea

2020-02-29 03:58:05 UTC

Besides... that is not so much carpentry, but musical instrument building

2020-02-29 03:58:40 UTC

A violin, guitar or a cello maker would be able to tell you much more about that

2020-02-29 03:59:17 UTC

I was wondering if making a set up like this would affect the structural integrity of the instrument or if I should make another one entirely

2020-02-29 03:59:25 UTC

Form is not strictly necessary for an instrument - it's the reverb of the resonance chamber that matters

2020-02-29 04:00:17 UTC

Alrighty. I'll send a few pics of the body tomorrow morning. I have it all finished except for a few designs but the body itself is finished mostly

2020-02-29 04:01:19 UTC

Well, for structural integrity in any string instrument you need to counteract the string tension without deformation (or without too much of it)

2020-02-29 04:01:43 UTC

And in some also have a string riser hold that load too

2020-02-29 04:02:01 UTC

Like it had in the picture of the lyre

2020-02-29 04:02:27 UTC

Some instruments just have so much wood that string tension and shape don't really matter

2020-02-29 04:02:35 UTC

Those are essentially overbuilt

2020-02-29 04:03:28 UTC

But for something as light and thin-walled as cello, the shape has to be what it is for structural integrity

2020-02-29 04:03:52 UTC

Alright.

That's the thickness of the sound box . And it's about 3.5 inches thick

2020-02-29 04:05:14 UTC

To me it appears to be like two guitar necks joined at the top

2020-02-29 04:05:57 UTC

Yeah I didn't want the neck to snap from too much weight being on one end

2020-02-29 04:06:06 UTC

Resonance chamber needs some thin walls to sound nice

2020-02-29 04:06:09 UTC

Since it's not as thin as a guitar would be

2020-02-29 04:06:33 UTC

So it may not sound great with how thick it'll be ?

2020-02-29 04:06:47 UTC

Guitar neck is usually a laminate

2020-02-29 04:07:04 UTC

What wood you using for the body

2020-02-29 04:07:16 UTC

I.e. it has two pieces of wood glued together to better tolerate the load

Fuck you I want olives now

2020-02-29 04:07:58 UTC

You sick fuck.

2020-02-29 04:08:07 UTC

I'm craving the salt

2020-02-29 04:08:11 UTC

I'd taste that

2020-02-29 04:08:13 UTC

It's interior plywood for houses. I filled the gaps in the wood with wood putty

Let’s push the bar on what’s technically not NSFW
