Also, communism is sustainable and the USSR was fully self reliant. The USSR transitioned to capitalism though as it wasn't competitive during the cold war.

Managing eastern europe had way too many costs for the USSR which was also very underdevelopped in relation to the US, France, Britain, Italy and West Germany.
