s designed for the sake of designing something that looks striking instead of for the sake of fitting in with the environment it's going to be used in
yea
there's a similar thing with big architecture projects in european city centres
because the project carries a lot of prestige the architects usually seem to design very striking buildings that might be interesting on their own but don't fit in with the traditional architecture around them
there's something to say for pushing the envelope on design and architecture which you can't do if you always need to hold back to consider what's already there
I've never understood the idealist view of the 50. Everyone living in houses that looked the same eating frozen dinners
i guess what's ugly or unfitting is subjective, but sometimes it just seems outlandish designs are being made for the sake of being different rather than good or beautiful
this building is in the middle of a canal surrounded by 19th and early 20th century architecture
i don't think it's beautiful, though it is interesting in a vacuum
i imagine especially in architecture there'd be lots of (potentially impossible) considerations and differences across large amounts of time and changing culture and what not combating with the desire to make something "showy" and with its own ideals
i dont know much about architecture and what goes into designing this stuff but man idk that shit is ugly as hell lol
kind acool in that its maybe a representation of some kind of painting style in the form of a building
i think it's interesting to look at in the same way as those blobby y2k designs
yeah
They are interesting to look at in a PNG image
but it detracts from the established surroundings
architecture seems tricky as hell actually now im thinking about it
But a nightmare to live with
striking that balance or not bothering. and if you get to head up a project like that you probably want to at least flex some creative freedom, maybe a lot
i imagine 90% of architects don't get that chance
it seems like a frustrating job if you have any creative passion
so i understand why things like that get made
i think you can also get satisfaction from striking the balance of what fits within the environment you're building in though
but it limits creative freedom
A lot of modern architecture is a monument to the architect's ego
what is the architect's ego?
the desire to express themselves?
Yeah, instead of an expression of something greater
i guess that's the consequence of individualism
Yep
Honestly idk why people want to stay as workers
I’m trying my hardest to start up any sort of business on my own so I don’t have to listen to anyone anymore
bro
both are cringe
