Not sure if you know how to play youtube videos in VLC but if you go to the toolbar > Media > Open Network Stream you can put most youtube videos right into VLC. Pretty neat.

Just plonk a little synth riff on it and alter it slightly every now and then, that'd probably be enough if you're going for a more bare-bones vibe
