Wow..... your custom car scene must be shit

2018-07-30 19:27:43 UTC

so engine swaps, even suspension modifications and such all revoke test exemption

2018-07-30 19:28:10 UTC

not really, our emission rules are less problematic and the mot is mostly just a safety thing

2018-07-30 19:29:26 UTC

I guess.....

I'm just used to everything over 25yo being ignored by the state and completely free game

Well look at some of the stuff TopGear made road legal

2018-07-30 19:30:00 UTC

you have some total bullshit laws on stuff like loud exhausts though

2018-07-30 19:30:36 UTC

meanwhile I'm running a 3in bore turbo back with a decat and haven't been pulled once despite sounding like thunder

2018-07-30 19:30:44 UTC

I put the cat on for mot though

2018-07-30 19:31:33 UTC

the dumb thing is my car is over the db limit for some tracks

Killed the Cossie <:pepe_sad:378719408345841664>

2018-07-30 19:36:55 UTC

my friend mentioned as well, the uk traditionally had less restrictions on cars

2018-07-30 19:37:35 UTC

that's why the mgb in the uk originally had chrome bumpers but the us regulation imposed horrible rubber bumpers

2018-07-30 19:38:01 UTC

also things like the tvr sagaris weren't us compliant

2018-07-30 19:38:34 UTC

There are actually some cars that haven't been able to attempt lap records at tracks because of that sound restriction.

Sargaris, just our version of a Viper or Corvette my dude

2018-07-30 19:50:48 UTC

I can understand someone wanting a replica because it's the only way for them to own and appreciate something that looks and feels like some impossibly rare or expensive car. I wouldn't do it though. I'd rather have that remain a dream and own the real version of some more attainable car.

2018-07-30 19:51:45 UTC

I'd do a modernized resto-mod kind of replica

2018-07-30 19:52:55 UTC

Yeah, if it's something not even trying to pass as the original and just your own thing I don't see any problem with that.

2018-07-30 19:53:51 UTC

Give me a 356 with a Subaru motor, modern suspension, and some cool technology in the cockpit, and I'm sold

2018-07-30 19:55:03 UTC

I saw a 912 with a Subaru conversion recently that was really well done and looked completely stock externally, that was pretty cool, and actually a reasonable daily driver.

2018-07-30 19:55:40 UTC

Also something like this is an exception.

2018-07-30 19:57:26 UTC

That company does all sorts of fabrication and support for real classic Ferraris, but they also built their own replica of a series 2 250 GTO from scratch and they bring it to track days and all sorts of events and actually drive it hard on track.

2018-07-30 19:58:01 UTC

That's ok, because it gives people a chance to see what that would be like without all the millions at risk.

2018-07-30 19:58:32 UTC

On the other hand the owner of the real 250 SWB Breadvan does the same thing, and there's only one of those and it actually is worth somewhere over 20 million.

2018-07-30 19:59:01 UTC

the corvette and viper wouldn't have had any issues entering the uk market if demand existed, aside from needing things like indicators

2018-07-30 19:59:25 UTC

the sagaris was missing safety features that the us requires

2018-07-30 20:00:01 UTC

there are tons of uk cars that literally could not meet us standards

2018-07-30 20:01:11 UTC

Also as far as production volume and years in production I doubt the total numbers of the Sagaris equal even a few months of Corvette production in any given year

2018-07-30 20:01:40 UTC

the ariel atom had no abs, tc or airbags, I'm pretty sure the US mandates airbags at least

2018-07-30 20:01:58 UTC

and it's probably not feasible to retrofit them to it

2018-07-30 20:02:13 UTC

The Atom is available stateside

2018-07-30 20:02:47 UTC

Slingshot is here too, and that's a 3 wheeler

2018-07-30 20:02:48 UTC

The Atom can be sold here, but not imported whole, it has to be imported in parts and registered as a kit car.

2018-07-30 20:02:56 UTC

That isn't a car at all.

2018-07-30 20:03:47 UTC

I don't think kit cars really count

2018-07-30 20:04:05 UTC

It's a "kit car"

2018-07-30 20:04:07 UTC

that's a funny workaround though

2018-07-30 20:04:19 UTC

Yeah, and the Slingshot is registered as a motorcycle, so that's about as relevant to this conversation as a scooter.

2018-07-30 20:04:31 UTC

It doesn't have to meet any car related regulations.
