Infinity and Nissan are not a comparable example

2018-08-09 16:42:27 UTC

They are

2018-08-09 16:42:36 UTC

They're different markets

2018-08-09 16:42:40 UTC

Luxury and entry

2018-08-09 16:42:43 UTC

Rebadging comes in all different sizes

2018-08-09 16:42:59 UTC

Suzuki and Nissan shared the same market

2018-08-09 16:43:16 UTC

Not to mention the example of rebadging for brand loyalty

2018-08-09 16:43:25 UTC

You weren't getting a 'better' product

2018-08-09 16:43:36 UTC

I mean, you were getting a better product

2018-08-09 16:43:44 UTC

You were getting a better suzuki

2018-08-09 16:44:00 UTC

You had different prices and incentives on them

2018-08-09 16:45:22 UTC

All of this seems like excessive overhead and logistics, just to place a bet that people would be tricked into not realizing their truck was made by someone else, who sells it for the same price or even cheaper

2018-08-09 16:45:31 UTC

Well it is

2018-08-09 16:45:45 UTC

Yes, that's why I don't get it.

2018-08-09 16:49:05 UTC

It's probably safe to assume that in that specific vehicle instance Nissan was well covered in whatever the terms of the deal were and Suzuki was taking a risk

2018-08-09 16:49:54 UTC

Suzuki most likely did this to get their name out there in the truck market

2018-08-09 16:49:57 UTC

And it didn't work

2018-08-09 16:50:30 UTC

And it was probably better they didn't try to design some truck for North America because they would have been assed out

2018-08-09 17:55:35 UTC

it's highly expensive to design vehicles and a lot cheaper to make some deal with another company; I believe the term "1% of something is better than 100% of nothing" somewhat applies as quite often it is not economically feasible to produce a vehicle for a certain market area, yet there are sales to be had within it by your brand

2018-08-09 17:56:08 UTC

sure, your profit margin is minimised, but it's still profit

2018-08-09 17:56:47 UTC

not to mention if you as a brand can cover every class of vehicle, you are more likely to get people into the dealerships

2018-08-09 18:15:15 UTC

I don't really understand why someone would hate it, this seems to be more of a case of not understanding the purpose for it.

2018-08-09 22:11:47 UTC

Also, there are a lot of cases there badge engineering involves a model made by a brand with no presence or no dealer network in a given market, rebranded as something people are familiar with.

2018-08-09 22:13:57 UTC

Such as the Daewoo platforms sold as GM brand vehicles. In those markets they're not actually competing with the original product because it's not there, but they're filling a role for the brand and saving them the resources that would be required to develop a new model.

2018-08-09 22:14:41 UTC

All of these manufacturers are businesses first, it would be silly to hold not wanting to waste lots of time and money and R&D for no good reason against them.

2018-08-09 22:17:38 UTC

I mean badge engineering literally benefits everyone involved, both brands, as well as the consumer, by providing a wider selection of vehicles on the market.

2018-08-09 22:33:56 UTC

@Matt thinks the best vehicle platform is the pl73

2018-08-09 22:34:09 UTC

he says the best cars ever are all pl73 based

2018-08-09 22:35:25 UTC

You want a large sedan based on the Peel P50

2018-08-09 22:35:51 UTC

you want a car with only rear wheel steering

2018-08-09 22:36:08 UTC

you think it will be the safest

2018-08-09 22:45:36 UTC

It works for forklifts. Front wheel drive, rear wheel steering, 70/30 weight distribution.

2018-08-09 22:45:56 UTC

Great for high speed sweeping corners.

2018-08-09 23:08:05 UTC

That's a very fat profile, looks similar to the new NSX.

2018-08-09 23:08:26 UTC

I wonder if it will be as garbage as the new nsx

2018-08-09 23:10:11 UTC

The existing mid-engined Corvette Daytona Prototype is a lot more like what I would hope for in the profile of a mid-engined Corvette road car, but this definitely looks a lot more like reality.

2018-08-09 23:11:11 UTC

maybe it will compete with

2018-08-09 23:11:14 UTC

the m8 gte

2018-08-09 23:11:56 UTC

I'm sure it will

2018-08-09 23:20:50 UTC

Maybe they'll pull a BMW and campaign a car in a "production based class" for a whole season without an equivalent road car actually being available to the public.
