🤷🏻

2018-08-13 21:56:16 UTC

There have been "C8" spy shots for literally years.

2018-08-13 21:56:56 UTC

Nobody wants kate spy shots, Matt

2018-08-13 21:56:58 UTC

take that elsewhere

2018-08-13 21:57:02 UTC

There's already an existing mid-engined Corvette Daytona Prototype that has used both C6 and C7 based bodywork through its racing career.

2018-08-13 21:59:25 UTC

People basing their idea of the production model around something that's definitely the GTE Pro car will end up being disappointed when they see the actual production model.

2018-08-13 21:59:49 UTC

Feel free to catch me up on whatever I've missed here though.

2018-08-13 22:07:08 UTC

Besides the Ford GT which was purpose built as a race car from the start, look at anything in GTE, they all have different and significantly wider bodywork than the road car equivalent.

2018-08-13 22:07:35 UTC

I think they just want to make a poor mans supercar

2018-08-13 22:07:59 UTC

If someone made some renderings after seeing this for example http://www.dailysportscar.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Aston-Martin-Vantage-GTE-2018.jpg and said "this is what the new Vantage will look like"

2018-08-13 22:08:09 UTC

People would sure be disappointed when they saw the new Vantage.

2018-08-13 22:08:17 UTC

True, very true

2018-08-13 22:08:38 UTC

I think the production mid-engined car will be way less exaggerated as far as the crazy wide rear fenders and massive intakes.

2018-08-13 22:09:21 UTC

Yeah, for sure it will be some sort of poor man's, but not especially poor man's mid-engined supercar.

2018-08-13 22:09:43 UTC

I feel like it's a bit of the NSX and Supra syndrome though.

2018-08-13 22:09:49 UTC

Well, you know what I mean. The Corvette is the "poor mans Ferrari"

2018-08-13 22:10:26 UTC

Something that has been rumored and promised for so long that expectations are incredibly high and almost anything will be a let down.

2018-08-13 22:11:03 UTC

I know what you mean in theory, but in practice it would throw it into the worst selling price bracket that exists for performance cars.

2018-08-13 22:11:28 UTC

What if they got in under 100k?

2018-08-13 22:12:59 UTC

The no-man's land between 911 level pricing and Ferrari 488/Mclaren models where cars like the R8 and new NSX life is absolutely the worst place to position a car. It's above the point where a person who actually cares about value will consider them, and below the point of people who will actually choose a car because it's more expensive and exclusive.

2018-08-13 22:13:25 UTC

Well if they get it under 100k it will be 55k cheaper than the current ZR1.

2018-08-13 22:13:44 UTC

that wont happen

2018-08-13 22:13:50 UTC

they will not undermine their own brand

2018-08-13 22:14:44 UTC

If they did they couldn't even market it as the ultimate Corvette in any buyer's mind because it would be perceived as "less" than models they have already positioned at a much higher price.

2018-08-13 22:14:53 UTC

look at it this way; if you're a chevrolet buyer and you love chevy, you own a zr1 and paid 155k for it, okay you got a discount since loyal customer and got it for 130, and the new mid engined vette comes out at say 98k

2018-08-13 22:14:55 UTC

you are pissed

2018-08-13 22:15:28 UTC

because your zr1 suddenly deflates in value, meanwhile a new product is in some way vastly superior

2018-08-13 22:15:35 UTC

What's the entry level Corvette cost?

2018-08-13 22:16:13 UTC

Around 66k these days.

2018-08-13 22:16:15 UTC

~60k for the absolute base I think

2018-08-13 22:16:46 UTC

So what if an entry level version of this mid-engin Corvette sold for $89k?

2018-08-13 22:17:05 UTC

you want a porsche for that money

2018-08-13 22:17:40 UTC

I'm JUST SAYING, they could be a price leader in the segment

2018-08-13 22:17:48 UTC

I mean I could see the entry level of the mid-engined one getting in below 100k, but whatever model that is will not be the hero poor man's supercar that's gonna beat the 488 in a comparison test. .

2018-08-13 22:17:55 UTC

Well it wouldn't be, the 911 is cheaper than that.

2018-08-13 22:18:01 UTC

Of course not

2018-08-13 22:18:52 UTC

I'm willing to bet there will be people that just say "I want a mid engined corvette", for the sake of what it is

2018-08-13 22:19:13 UTC

Yeah there will, but will those people want the lowest performance version of it?

2018-08-13 22:19:31 UTC

You could say the same about the Corvette now

2018-08-13 22:19:47 UTC

I honestly think they missed the boat on this, and should have done it decades ago and established the model when there was list stiff competition.

2018-08-13 22:19:56 UTC

Yes
