@Somnio I don't mean to use, mechanically is what interests me

2018-06-29 05:26:27 UTC

Much as I love the C96 I've basically accepted that even if I get a good one it's going to be a bit of a pain to use

2018-06-29 05:26:59 UTC

why not get a norinco lookalike?

2018-06-29 05:27:01 UTC

@Deleted User there is good bolt actions like lee enfields and mausers that feel like sex when you shoot them, and then there's Mosin Nagants which are as smooth as a cactus

2018-06-29 05:27:19 UTC

SMLEs are sexy

2018-06-29 05:27:38 UTC

@Deleted User I made a promise to do some other stuff before I get my FID

2018-06-29 05:27:46 UTC

So all that's on hold for a while

2018-06-29 05:27:52 UTC

good luck with your collection bane

2018-06-29 05:28:04 UTC

I hope to have many one day 😃

2018-06-29 05:28:52 UTC

You can get a lot of older guns pretty cheap if you look hard enough, lots were produced in high enough numbers to be plentiful today or are just not of interest to collectors

2018-06-29 05:29:01 UTC

I think the real issue is all the oddball calibers

2018-06-29 05:29:37 UTC

For modern stuff I still favor wood/metal or all metal guns

2018-06-29 05:31:40 UTC

@Deleted User I'd love to see a modern take on a straight pull military rifle

2018-06-29 05:32:29 UTC

The Mannlicher is pretty sexy

2018-06-29 05:34:13 UTC

Yeah, something like that in aluminum or polymers in some large caliber would be cool

2018-06-29 05:34:33 UTC

Or just that, but made now, honestly. Ruck Zucks are great, even after 100 years

2018-06-29 05:35:45 UTC

I really want this tho

.45acp carbine 😍

2018-06-29 05:36:26 UTC

my favorite gun is a Vepr 7.62x39 16" barrel btw
the dream guns that I plan on collecting are a PKM and SVD

2018-06-29 05:37:02 UTC

@Deleted User I can't argue with that

2018-06-29 05:37:10 UTC

@Somnio All soviet bloc?

2018-06-29 05:37:49 UTC

how do I unlock the channels? I can't post any pictures

2018-06-29 05:38:06 UTC

you gotta keep typing

2018-06-29 05:38:11 UTC

or post it in <#383108664380227595>

2018-06-29 05:39:22 UTC

I am a Polish and Russian collector currently so they are all soviet, yes

2018-06-29 05:41:21 UTC

so as you can see, a Vepr is a civilian semi-auto version of an RPK machine gun. it has a shorter 16" barrel on it while the original RPK has a 23" barrel. it is a very very nice gun

2018-06-29 05:41:55 UTC

Nice

2018-06-29 05:41:59 UTC

How's the accuracy?

2018-06-29 05:42:54 UTC

AKOU =/= Science but it is VERY accurate compared to standard AKs

2018-06-29 05:44:00 UTC

I think it has a lot to do with the thick RPK barrel that Veprs have. they heat up slower than normal AKs so they retain the same POI for a longer amount of time

2018-06-29 05:44:51 UTC

Yeah, I know the RPK has a beefed up barrel and some internal components are also strengthened for sustained fire

2018-06-29 05:45:04 UTC

So the civilian version retains those features?

2018-06-29 05:45:44 UTC

yes, Veprs are RPKs with shortened barrels and semi-auto only

2018-06-29 05:46:42 UTC

but 7.62x39 reaches maximum velocity out of a 16" barrel, so a 23" barrel RPK will have the same accuracy as a Vepr

2018-06-29 05:46:59 UTC

Huh, didn't know that.

2018-06-29 05:47:35 UTC

the only reason the RPK barrel is so long is to transfer heat even slower than usual for automatic fire and to fit the long underfolding bipod under the barrel as seen in the picture I posted

2018-06-29 05:48:35 UTC

Vepr's are semi-auto only so even though it has a shorter barrel, you'll never heat it up like you would an RPK

2018-06-29 05:48:45 UTC

Yeah, bipod's gotta be a decent size to get clearance for the 45 round mags
