Not even Ben Shapiro?

2018-01-31 01:37:39 UTC

on certain issues, certainly, but I find that others provide similar views without having to be reminded of his religious views time and again

2018-01-31 01:37:53 UTC

so I don't really see much of a point

2018-01-31 01:38:16 UTC

I'm happy to support him when he's speaking sense, which is more often than not

2018-01-31 01:38:32 UTC

Ben doesn't really invoke religion much. Most of his arguments are purely secular, he adds a religious perspective here and there, but it's rare for his arguments to rely purely on religion.

2018-01-31 01:40:19 UTC

it's true that he doesn't, but it seeps in there, and I am a heavy fedora-tipper when it comes to religion. It just gets on my nerves, and for something I consider an enjoyable pastime, youtube videos, I really don't need the depressing reminder of religion's existence popping up again and again.

2018-01-31 01:40:23 UTC

Same with Crowder, one of the Change My Mind was on abortion, he didn't appeal to religion even once.

2018-01-31 01:41:00 UTC

Steven "most of you deserve to go to hell anyway" Crowder.

2018-01-31 01:41:05 UTC

did he change your mind on abortion, though? assuming you weren't against it to begin with

2018-01-31 01:41:30 UTC

takes some edge to make a statement like that, lol

2018-01-31 01:41:54 UTC

or perhaps it's just more of that odd humor I don't get

2018-01-31 01:41:55 UTC

Change My Mind videos are videos where he goes out, usually to a university, and sits down to talk and argue about a specific topic to whoever wants to have the conversation.

2018-01-31 01:42:09 UTC

I watched one where he went out and talked to feminists, I think

2018-01-31 01:42:29 UTC

stopped watching when some annoying harpy was on, iirc

2018-01-31 01:42:34 UTC

Crowder is a Catholic. That was his response to "why aren't you trying to convert people?"

2018-01-31 01:42:35 UTC

not crowder's fault, obviously

2018-01-31 01:43:19 UTC

so he's not the kind of catholic that thinks you just have to ask for forgiveness from god to receive it?

2018-01-31 01:43:33 UTC

He is.

2018-01-31 01:43:53 UTC

so he's lazy, or lacks compassion?

2018-01-31 01:43:55 UTC

He just doesn't feel guilty that people reject Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

2018-01-31 01:44:26 UTC

if I was convinced most people would go to hell, and that they could be saved if I managed to convince them to embrace jesus, I would spend most of my time attempting to do just that

2018-01-31 01:44:47 UTC

Why is it your duty to save people?

2018-01-31 01:45:03 UTC

it's not my duty, but I would feel compelled to do it

2018-01-31 01:45:14 UTC

Why don't you spend most of your time telling people to not eat carbohydrates and junk food? That's bad for them.

2018-01-31 01:45:28 UTC

I could not sit idly by if I knew loved ones, or friends were being condemned to burn in hell for eternity

2018-01-31 01:46:10 UTC

Then again, most Catholics don't know apologetics.

2018-01-31 01:46:12 UTC

because I don't consider elevated risk of heart disease and diabetes to be equal to an eternity of burning

2018-01-31 01:46:45 UTC

IIRC the jury is still out in the Catholic perspective on Hell as a place of eternal damnation. More of one of those pop cultural osmosis things in the wake of Dante's Divine Comedy

2018-01-31 01:46:59 UTC

the jury is out on everything in christianity

2018-01-31 01:47:28 UTC

it's nonsense, that has spawned a multitude of ridiculous "heresies" that the catholic church has no power to stamp out anymore

2018-01-31 01:47:45 UTC

crowder's beliefs are just as valid as any other christian's

2018-01-31 01:47:48 UTC

It's nonsense only if you decide to not pay attention to what it's written.

2018-01-31 01:48:07 UTC

in that they are superstition, and thus only "valid" in their own minds

2018-01-31 01:48:13 UTC

Go clean your room. And watch JBP's biblical lectures.

2018-01-31 01:48:27 UTC

Not dank

2018-01-31 01:48:27 UTC

ah yes, but who are you to say that what is written is to be interpreted strictly, and not metaphorically?

2018-01-31 01:48:45 UTC

checkmate apologists

2018-01-31 01:48:51 UTC

Oh, we got a postmodersnist here.

2018-01-31 01:49:29 UTC

"There are an infinite number of interpretations, so none of them is valid."

2018-01-31 01:50:07 UTC

they are equally valid, relative to the individual who holds them

2018-01-31 01:50:16 UTC

You interpret it in any all the ways you can, and then decide which ones provide you with anything useful.
