2018-08-11 12:36:48 UTC

Except Abestos isnt totally banned. It has been still used in manufacturing and ship building. It just isnt in everyday insullation anymore.

2018-08-11 12:37:03 UTC

I'm sure there's more to it, but very weird that 'bringing back asbestos' in any form would even be considered

2018-08-11 12:37:26 UTC

I remember the story about L Ron Hubbard lining his Sea Corps yacht with that shit

2018-08-11 12:37:50 UTC

Also the German jet pilots wearing asbestos flight suits to protect them from any fumes leaking into the cockpit and melting them

2018-08-11 12:37:55 UTC

good times all round

2018-08-11 12:37:59 UTC

we had a huge discussion a few day backs. and it more or less ended on as long as it save it gonna make a comeback

2018-08-11 12:38:17 UTC

Local church down the road has been condemned for four or five years now because of the asbestos inside

2018-08-11 12:38:26 UTC

I think only recently it reopened after they managed to remove it all

2018-08-11 12:38:39 UTC

And another house nearby was being knocked down with asbestos warnings all around it

2018-08-11 12:38:46 UTC

Was set up like a fumigation tent for a few days

2018-08-11 12:38:57 UTC

Basically it is just gonna expand uses. So long as it isnt insulation or a fiberos form its relatively safe.

2018-08-11 12:39:33 UTC

Basic insulation*

2018-08-11 12:40:01 UTC

I think it was James Hardy in Oz who had to settle a massive class action lawsuit (12,000+) from people suffering from asbestos-related illnesses

2018-08-11 12:41:16 UTC

```As concern grew about the serious adverse health effects of asbestos, in the mid-1980s James Hardie developed an asbestos-free fibre cement technology, without the dangers associated with asbestos```
2018-08-11 12:41:16 UTC
Most abestos related health issues come from either household/business insulation. Improper gear in manufacturing, or consuming it.
2018-08-11 12:41:39 UTC
hell a lot of the insulation we use today, is not good for your lungs if you breathe it. glass fiber insulation is the most used in norway and if you handel that shit without safety gear you are gonna have a bad time in the long run
2018-08-11 12:41:49 UTC
```The Australian Council of Trade Unions has estimated that 4600 claims for mesothelioma would be made against James Hardie from 2006 onwards, with claims expected to peak in 2010 or 2011 at 250 per year. The total number of past and future claims made against James Hardie for asbestos-related diseases is estimated to be more than 12,500, of which 8103 will be claimed after 2006```

2018-08-11 12:42:57 UTC

```In 2001 the company established the Medical Research and Compensation Foundation (MRCF) with a total of $293 million dollars in funds, saying that this fund would be able to meet all the future asbestos claims.
James Hardie then relocated its company off-shore in Holland leaving behind the compensation fund, which was found to have a massive financial shortfall.```
2018-08-11 12:43:00 UTC
Classy πŸ‘Œ
2018-08-11 12:43:12 UTC
``` In the end James Hardie guaranteed a fund of $4 billion to cover its future obligations to asbestos victims.```

2018-08-11 12:45:46 UTC

```It has been estimated that approximately 30 percent of all Australian domestic homes constructed before 1982 contain asbestos products; the use of asbestos in public buildings, such as schools, was significantly higher.
Asbestos causes significant health problems, most notably lung cancer and mesothelioma, a type of cancer that affects the lining of the heart and lungs. Asbestos is a crystalline substance that produces invisible fibres. When these fibres are inhaled they lodge in the lungs. ```
2018-08-11 13:07:40 UTC
I feel sorry for the people that have to mine to the stuff
2018-08-11 13:09:21 UTC
