"The major influence on the Labour Party and on the English-speaking socialist movement worldwide, has meant that Fabianism became one of the main inspirations of international social democracy. An American Fabian Society was established in Boston in February 1895 by Rev. W. D. P. Bliss, a prominent Christian socialist.[42] The group published a periodical, The American Fabian, and issued a small series of pamphlets.[42] Around the same time a parallel organization emerged on the Pacific coast, centered in California, under the influence of socialist activist Laurence Gronlund.[42]"
Communists looking dumb with an L on their forehead
So they've since abondoned that logo, and changed it to a tortoise.
fucking wow
[Laurence] Gronlund is best remembered for his pioneering work in adapting the International Socialism of Karl Marx and Ferdinand Lassalle to the American idiom in his popular 1884 book, The Cooperative Commonwealth...and the American socialist movement of the 1880s and 1890s.
no wonder Cali is so fucked up
apparently this guy was pretty influential back in the day... I actually wonder how much of an impact he had
Immediately upon its inception, the Fabian Society began attracting many prominent contemporary figures drawn to its socialist cause, including George Bernard Shaw, H. G. Wells...Even Bertrand Russell briefly became a member, but resigned after he expressed his belief that the Society's principle of entente (in this case, between countries allying themselves against Germany) could lead to war.
Snapping turtles are more Badass
They'll fuck you up and your entire family
"The first Fabian Society pamphlets advocating tenets of social justice coincided with the zeitgeist of Liberal reforms during the early 1900s, including eugenics."
what the fuck
how far back does social justice go?
this rabbit hole just keeps going
"The Fabians lobbied for the introduction of a minimum wage in 1906, for the creation of a universal health care system in 1911"
"Through the course of the 20th century the group has always been influential in Labour Party circles, with members including...more recently Shirley Williams, Tony Blair"
"Direct or indirect Fabian influence may also be seen in the liberal socialism of Carlo Rosselli (founder, with his brother Nello Rosselli, of the anti-fascist group's Giustizia e Libertà )"
of course they're allied with the anti-fascists
classic
"It'll get ya....eventually"
Proactive misinformation
yeah right, I'm in australia and just checked out the Fabian Society. I have no idea of the foothold they have here
I hope they don't have a foothold
our country is getting fucked enough as is
we don't need those cunts making things worse
Social justice probably goes a long way
But, the social justice we now from our time, probably started or won more fame during gamegate I guess
It's sad we have to constantly remind people that, if social justice was just, we would call it "justice".
the power theyve had in past PM's is pretty intense but yeah, I guess we should be glad our climate isnt as full as say the US
Much like when we point out to a family member that "medicine that has been proved to work" is called "medicine".
Women- inherently good
Men- inherently evil
time to post "its ok to be white" in womens bathrooms?
That's a smart idea, actually. To stop racism, why don't we just separate white people and ~~coloured people~~ people of colour in public facilities? Different bathrooms, entrances, sitting areas, drinking fountains. Why has nobody thought of this before?
Brilliant
Who would have guessed that Jim Crow was actually progressive.
Talk about a plot twist
Bring back the Jim Crow statue reeeeeeeeeeeeeee
