British North America

2018-06-21 11:55:52 UTC

That's what it was before the UK panicked after the American Civil War and created what is now Canada in a bid to try to deny the US that territory

2018-06-21 11:57:01 UTC

It was a combination of how much aid the British gave to the then recently-defeated CSA, the Fenian Raids, the Annexation Bill of 1866, and the Alaska purchase in 1867 that caused the creation of the Dominion of Canada in 1867

Well my ex, and 5 of my God children live there

so imagine my interest

2018-06-21 11:59:04 UTC

Loyalists, the lot of them.

2018-06-21 12:00:15 UTC

I care plenty, given that Canada has, for most of American history, been our gravest threat of land invasion by a competent power

2018-06-21 12:00:37 UTC

that power in this case being the British Empire

2018-06-21 12:01:09 UTC

There's a reason War Plan Red focuses so much on taking the place over first and foremost

we are so small, but you still fear us

2018-06-21 12:02:32 UTC

We did in the 1920's when the British empire was at its zenith

2018-06-21 12:02:59 UTC

After WWII, though? There's a reason the US and USSR agreed to the idea that the UK should decolonize.

2018-06-21 12:04:37 UTC

Yeah, we both ideologically opposed such monarchial empires, and the US had the added bonus of no longer being threatened by its oldest rival.

My wife was born in Hong Kong

Happiest day of my life

2018-06-21 12:05:57 UTC

The shot of the British Union Jack being lowered makes for pretty good fapping material tbh

My Nepali Wife was born on British soil

I'd praised the Lord

I thanked God

It was a gift

It was everything

2018-06-21 12:09:55 UTC

Which bit of British soil, the bit the UK still has or one of the bits the UK lost in or after the Cold War?

She was born in Hong Kong

and the Gurkas

were stationed there

2018-06-21 12:11:11 UTC

Ah, right

born on British soil

2018-06-21 12:12:09 UTC

what happens if you were born on the day Britain gave up Hong kong?

2018-06-21 12:12:23 UTC

would you still have Britain citizenship?

you are Chinese

2018-06-21 12:12:29 UTC

ahh

2018-06-21 12:12:53 UTC

The US had this funny instance of a region be under Spanish rule, German rule, Japanese rule, briefly American rule, and then independent all in one lifetime, and then while independent, basically fight the UN tooth and nail to get officially annexed by the US, in 1986

2018-06-21 12:12:59 UTC

i thought so but just thought id ask too incase there was some weird cases

if she had not died
