probably the pedophilia
I'm agnostic, and not atheist.
Yeah, the institutions are fucked sure, but your average Joe who goes to Mass isn't a pedophile
And I'll defend agnosticism (sort of akin to theism) from atheism any day of the week. They're not the same.
There is nowhere in the bible that suggests pedophilia is okay, but if you can point out where it is, I'll say it's a problem.
that isn't the part is constantly talked about in the media though. the priest diddling kids is probably one of the easiest jokes to make, you hear it all the time. they also have the Spanish inquisition hanging over their head, that is one the most common arguments against religion. @Fitzydog
You mean the Crusades? That's what comes up almost all the time, not the Spanish inquisition.
i hear both
And the Crusades is easy to argue with.
another thing is the perception of catholic school being strict, and mean nuns etc.
It's not.
Yeah, cause we have to be vigilant about the Inquisition happening again, like it did 400 years ago
This is why we're for secularism.
> @Fitzydog : "I don't even understand the distaste towards Catholics"
In America it's a mix of historical Protestant bitterness, mated to older perceptions(18th and 19th cent.) that being part of the Catholic church meant you were an agent of the Pope come to help dismantle good American democracy, combined with the "undesirable" foreign influences brought by immigrants that expanded the religion in the country(i.e. French, Irish, Spanish), and modern scandals that have lambasted the church
It still exists, Legion.
I've heard leftist atheists go on about how Christians "constantly attempt to undermine secularism."
Yeah, for example the video I posted.
Like some sort of conspiracy theory.
There's a whole wiki article about it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Catholicism_in_the_United_States
"Those Xians want to turn America into The Handmaid's tale and force all women to be pumped full of babies against their will"
@Legiondude Yeah, I know about historically. My whole family is Irish on both sides.
I don't understand the *modern* distaste for it
Like, specifically Catholics as well
Sure, religions have done brutal things in the past. Almost all religions.
Catholicism was reformed.
So it wasn't so brutal.
"Just not reformed enough to let women be priests"
- Progressives, definitely
i stand by what i said earlier, that it has to do with how they are portrayed in the media
that includes, movies, tv, stand up, etc.
Yes, let's have the Patriarchical religious body make their Male symbol of leadership gender neutral lol
I believe that's for a variety of reasons, mainly due to Mary and the idea behind the word "Mother" rather than "Father".
Not sure.
Since the holy mother is Mary.
The deeper I dive into all this, the more I realize how much Feminism has really fucked up society and brainwashed a lot of us
Feminism, at least the later stages is garbage.
And then there's Liberation Theology
I can totally understand wanting to not impose a suggested role on gender bases, but that was really the only justification and want of correction from the first-wave of feminism.
Which was done.
It's just turned that sort of ideology into a constant poison.
