i am actually somewhat baffled by this the CDU usually is in the range of 35-45%... let me look up the old election-results just to be sure that's not just me misremembering(yes i am glad that merkel is losing power no way you slice it)

on the other hand they once greatest competitor the SPD(social democrats) used to be head on head with them, also in the 30's and 40's and now unable to reach the 20's(long story short our last spd-chancellor made some vary unpopular decisions and after that it just went down hill)
