"conservative"
UK do have a time of hardship infront of them before the new trade deals are in place. still they do have strong allies both the US and other nations that is not in the EU bubble. and UK gets the benefit of not having to deal with Brussel to set up said deal unless it a deal to the EU
I will shove Spitfires up their ass before I vote remain again
@Capitán Alatriste Spain was an interesting place, I stopped in a bar for a snack after a long drive and they had Murals of Lenin
heh, where?
A lot of poverty outside the city
Rota
The Wall built by the Romans was interesting, and some of the old Mosques
Southern Spain has the most economically deprived regions. They are also mostly left leaning, curiously also have the most "Spanish" feeling people
Lol this does not surprise me, I only regret not going to see the bull fight. Although i did have a steak that was amazing down there 😍
Bull fighting is quite a divisive issue in Spain. Since southern Spain is the more traditionalist they embrace it, however more parts of Spain are starting to abolish it
one of the main reason why Catalonia do want to leave Spain is that they are fed up feeding tax money to the rest of Spain that is a black hole for money to go in to and disappear for good
Opinions on Catalonia?
I do not support in any way the independence movement of Catalonia. It is probably one the few times I lean more nationalist where I support the need for unified nationalist Spanish sentiment.
I do believe that every region in Spain has the right to and ought be proud of their heritage and their culture, however above all they are Spanish.
What about the referendum, should it have been prevented even if it was only symbolic (wouldnt have done anything)
I do approve of the need of a referendum, but one that is legally binding, bilateral and approved by the constitutional court. One where the entirety of Catalonia's voice is heard.
The referendum that took place was the contrary of this, it was a unilateral and illegal act. It was illegally financed, organised and put into action
they did not help that they did send in the military to calm things down, the Spanish government did only put fuel on the fire in the end
And I agree, the previous conservative government led by Mariano Rajoy did little to nothing to de-escalate the tensions and social divides. It acted in the last minute, with a rash and inappropriate manner
Is that like the US's national guard?
The National Guard is the reserve?
Kind of
The Civil Guard, is like the Italian *Carabineri* or French *Gendarmes*. It is more "paramilitary" branch of the police.
I dont think we really have that in the US
We have swat teams but those vary by city and county
They have jurisdiction in the control of Borders, Urban/Mountain areas, Coast and traffic. The National Police have jurisdiction in the Cities
While it was not amusing, it is interesting how the US people react to Secession done by other countries. It plays to well into American Narratives
Indeed, I've seen a lot of people, mostly Americans, draw parallels between the Catalonian and American independence movements. In my opinion they could not be more different
Americans love indepence
🇺🇸
I can imagine yeah, given that's how they were born as a nation
